SO... last week I was driving on the highway and the engine cut out and I had to coast to a stop. It started right up, and I drove about 2 miles before it happened again at a stop light. I let it sit for about 20 min., it started and this time I got about a mile before it stalled and wouldnt start.

I had a friend give me a jump so I could get the car to a place I would be able to store it safely. After some research, I found that the problem was likely the ignition switch. Today, I bought a new one and installed it myself. The car still wont start! all it does is slowly rev and then start clicking fast. Please help!!!

 

whats it do if you jump it with the new switch?
whats the battery condition- volts good?
battery cables- clean connecton to terminals? no crud growing etc

 

Thanks for responding... I jumped the car and it started right up... Drive it home, about ten miles, shut it off and now nothing. It's revs slightly but the clicking has stopped... I assume starter???

 

Update-

So I went out and tightened the battery cables. It still wouldnt start but I got the clicking noise back. I jumped it again and it started up. I drove it around for about a half hour. Turned it off, and it wouldnt start again, but the clicking noise was back. Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesnt that mean that I need a new battery?
