99 TL center console light always on

Today I noticed that my trim pieces on the center console were warm. I opened the lid and found that the light is always on (when the headlights are on) and warmed up the inside considerably. Is this normal, or is there a switch somewhere that should be turning it off when the lid is closed?

Also, since it's always on, I'm guessing it'll go out pretty soon. Do I need to take it all apart to get to the bulb, or does the plastic cover pop off?

Its the same deal in my 02 TL-S so im guessing thats just how it is, i think but not for certain the light in the glove box is always on when the headlights are on too. Also the cover in front of the light inside the consol should just pop off.

The light is supposed to always be on when the lights are on. Mine is still on the original bulb 14 years and 600k miles later.

Awesome, thanks for the answers! I'll just have to make sure I don't keep any chocolate in there.
