99 TL with 200k

I just bought a 99 TL with 200,000 miles on it for $2100. The auto mode of the transmission slips a bit. Is this a major or minor fix. Car drives great in manual mode, just cant drive too hard on it.

I would see if it is throwing out any codes. To replace the trans is about 2-3k for a rebuilt and installed.AVOID a company on the internet American Carz transmissions.Good price but I have been waiting over a month for mine and I must pay for shipping cod After I payed round trip shipping once.Great deal on the car.I paid 5500 for my 00 and the trans slipped a week after I had it.Good Luck.

UPDATE: first 100 miles and i threw out a CEL and TCS lights. If i am replacing the trans, does anyone know if a 6m or 5a will fit in our cars with out major mods? i would also consider swapping for a J32a2 if its a direct fit. I know the DC5 was fairly easy to swap between k20a, k20a2 and k20a3

First of all welcome to the 200k club!

A complete engine and trans swap is doable if you get EVERYTHING swapped over. A couple of guys here have done a 99 to 03 conversion. Make sure you get the ecu and the key that matches and all the harnesses as well.

Other than the trans, anything else wrong with the car?

So an ecu from a 03 TL will work just fine? after looking at all that is needed for a 6m i may just go with a 5a. What about a j32a3, or is that just a whole different ball game

No, there is no part to be replaced. Your trans needs a rebuild or to be replaced.

The car is still driving fine, but i cant get it registered without a smog. If there a way to reset the CEL and TCS lights so i can get the emissions checked.

Ecu can be reset with clock fuse #13 on passenger side or battery disconnect but that kills radio and nav and have to have codes.

It takes a couple of drive cycles to reset the ecu and emission test will show when "computer not ready". Thats an old trick that doesnt work anymore.

Pulling that fuse does NOT require codes for the radio. Unhooking the battery however does require the codes.

And yes, clearing the code wont work as it still wont pass till the ecu logs enough miles.
