5w-30 and 5w20 need advice

My fiancee took her TL to John Eagle Acura for years, even for oil changes. Sure, it might be a rip-off, but people do that for peace of mind, knowing that they will do everything by the book. Heh. WRONG!! Not only did they do a transmission power flush (against Honda's recommendations and with a car that already had the 2nd gear oil jet kit recall repair), but they used 5w-30 for three years! A-holes! Anyway, as soon as yours truly took over the maintenance a year ago, I started using the correct oil: 5w-20.

Is that bad? I've been doing it for about three oil changes/1-2 years.

different year owner books show 5-20 or 5-30 --mostly based on years when CAFE fuel standards were in use--those say 20

See any of the 100+ oil threads to know either is fine, many prefer 5-30 for more protection of the moving parts

depending on what machine they used- acura has a new way they are changing the fluid
its mostly for the new cars with different type trans than ours- but if they felt it was safe and your trans dies in a month--some goodwill assistance would be in order~

The oil jet recall is a simple install of external line to route oil to 2nd gear shaft thru the normal oil filler hole--bolts right on the outside
Its got nothing to do with the regular clutch wearout we suffer from

anyone concerned with trans fluid condition/trans condition should take a 3 ounce oil sample and send to blackstone labs or similar place for mass-spectro analysis
for 25 bucks they can tell whats loose in the fluid, how much and what metals and materials indicate normal or excess wear on different parts

You'll be fine with either -20 or -30, but the transmission machine flush thing was a huge screwup on the dealer's part.
