2g TL Seats

OK question
I have a 99 in heather Mist it came with the beige interior its nice and all but would love a Black interior. I know i would need the door panels well at least the driver side from a 99 but im not to sure about what year i can take out the seats from. I know the 02-03 have the memory and side SRS system. I want to be able to just swap them out if its possible anyone have any experience ?

00-03 all have side airbags so toucan swap the leather off those seats and onto yours if you want. Te plugs might be different though but if not I imagine you can just leave the side air bag unplugged

I swapped the leather and bottom cushion onto my 00 tl seat frame and top cushion. The plugs I believe are different but I'm not 100% sure

Hey Es617, Being a '99 .....ya may very well be lucky enough to just leave the extra air bag harness disconnected.

That would be easier to try then removing the covers, IMO. It's worth a try !

Yeah, a wiring diagram of each would be helpful to know for sure. Maybe splicing of some wires might work if they didn't perfectly match up ?

Yeah I'm goingto swap to type s seats myself. I would really like 3rd gen seats but it's not as simple as swapping leather or seats

i Like the sportiness of the type s seats. I just picked up the full interior Minus the upper part of the dash and the headliner from a kid on Craigslist. 160 for everything the seats look like they had never been sit on they are so clean and Fresh just the driver side has the normal tear. But SUPER EXCITED To have my black interior will post pics once i get the driver seat put in. Installed all the seat minus the drivers

I thought I got a good deal. A lot of cars including the 3G tl have a lighter gray color headliner. I'm guessing to help with heat

Yeah i know ive basically given the kid 240 in the past 2 mounths and have taken all the "essentials" i need. And made 150 back just from selling the headlights i was going to clear .

I noticed that yesterday about the Headliner. I left it seeing that it was grey and left some plastics that were grey as well thought i could get away with the beige headliner and a and c pillar plastics but might paint those black too to flow better. Im just looking on someone to fix my driver seat since its a bit ripped and don't want to tackle it myself

i have done type-S seat swap about 6month ago in my 99 TL.

Driver Seat...
First i did try to just swapping out the wiring an use the whole Type-S seat. Everything plug up fine but only half of the control did not work. ( not sure why ) After messing with it for about 2+ hour i just decide to just swap out leather cover an bottom cushion.

Passenger Seat...
I just swap out the wire an every work fine.

So you just took apart the leather cover? How did you do that if you dont mind me asking. I have a fairly big rip and its cheaper to take the cover from one in the junkyard but want to know how to do it before if attempt

1st there 4 bolt holding the seat in place an 1 main wire connection. Just unbolt an disconnect wire. ( easy part ) 2nd i unbolt 2 bolt that was holding bottom an top together located on side of the seat. ( 1 bolt on each side ) The bottom cover has 6 pin hook holding the seat cover in place just unhook them. With little pull they should come off. Now the Top part a little Harder an you have to BECARE NOT TO BROKE TAP.. Not sure how to explain in detail. There like 4 tap 2 on top an 2 on bottom holding it in place. You pull an slide downward to get it out. After you remove cover same thing 6+ pin hook holding cover in place an 2 headrest holder just pop them out.

It not hard at all it's easier then having to explain it..

Think im going to have to try that. I have a friend who stitched his back up was thinking of letting him try it out since ill most likely be getting a new cover in the next couple days. Had an upholstery shop quote me for 100 to fix it which is wayyy to much in my opinion just to fix a rip i have attached pics of the rip in the seat

Hey Es617, that's gotta be the most common wear spot with our leather seats. If ya got a super deal on the complete interior, I think that it would be money well spent to have that section of the driver's seat cover professionally reinforced and recovered.

I'll bet that the black really looks good compared to the tan ! Good luck !
