2002 TL Tranny Replacement

Help please. I searched the threads and have some questions. Last night, wife was driving home and CEL/TCS light both illuminated on an incline when she tried to move forward. She smelled burning and said car would not go forward for about 2 seconds, then caught and pulled forward. She made it another half mile and car started jerking/missing. (her words). I went to investigate where she pulled over in a parking lot. Car started fine, no TCS light, but a CEL was illuminated. Car drove fine and felt a little sluggish on shifts. Took it to my mechanics parking lot. Worse case I believe is a slipping tranny. I am lucky as it is original tranny with 168K miles. I did the oil jet recall a few years back. My question is this. Should I opt for an Acura OEM replacement tranny or a reman. from the internet? I know there is going to be a substantial price difference but I love OEM stuff. I saw several places offering a 3 yr warranty, but that did not include labor charges if the tranny went out again in the 3 yr period. Does anyone know who makes the best replacement tranny? I have ZERO complaints on this vehicle. Replaced one turn signal bulb in 168K. GREAT vehicle. Looking for best options on replacing tranny and going another 168K miles. Thanks for the help.

The one Acura would install as a replacement is a reman..as to having Acura do it or buying a trans yourself and having a good shop do it-I guess it all depends on how much money you have to spend.

More than likely with that many miles a good faith deal is pretty much out of the question, IMO.

Here is a place on ebay that offers the same trans that Acura would install for 2095.00, and it comes with 3/36,000 warranty.

Pretty sure there has been someone on here that has done this.

New Info for all:

Remanufactured Tranny Prices and warranty info. All prices in Alabama.

Autozone: $1899.99 3yrs/36K miles

Advanced Auto Parts: $2544.33 3/36

O'Reilly Auto Parts: $2799.17 3/36

And the best option:

jasperengines.com: $3100.00 3 yrs/100K miles and all labor/parts charges covered if it fails in that period. Built better than new specs with all Acura recalls completed on tranny. Dyno tested. EXCELLENT customer service. My best option because of warranty and I am going to keep car. $540.00 labor from my mechanic to change out. Still sucks though. I am original owner and my wife drives the car 100 miles a day. Changed tranny fluid every 20k with Honda tranny fluid and she drived like a granny, no hot rodding. Unsat and probably my last Acura. Gonna change back to the Honda Accord on my next car purchase.
