2001 TL, Reading CD-R Discs?

Does the 2001 TL play CD-R's......I put in some burned CD's and the CD player wouldn't read them. Is it the format of the CD or the car?

Here's a good thread with some discussion of this:

This is a very common problem with the OEM single disc players.

Unfortunately, there's no one type of CD-Rs or CD burning technique that works for everyone. These OEM CD players apparently have unit to unit variations and what works for one player may not work for another.

Another thing to try in a CD laser lens cleaner.

I have had VERY good results using SONY `CDQ80LS3' CDR's burnt at a speed of 4x. These are currently on sale at COmpUSA for $13 for 100 CDR's this week.
Out of 25-30 CDR's burnt I have only one that doesn't work in my 99TL. Someplace else I had read about these working in the TL and I have found them to work well for me.

I don't think that will help.....the black ones underneath are the ones I have and they don't read. I really think it is just hit or miss with the HU.

I have a 2003 and it won't play rewritables, but will play permanent CDR's. If you try 2 or 3 brands of CDR's and it still won't work it's most likely that your player has issues with them. Also some brands are really made by the same factories. I got FujiFilm CDR's from BestBuy to work in my 2003 TL, if I remember correctly. That might help. Of course to find the true maker of the disc it requires a special program..

Also if you are burning your CDR's at high speed, try lowering the speed to 4X or 8X, this solves problems quite often because at high speed the data can look blurred to some laser pickups. Hey, it could even be the fault of your burner as well. Hopefully you'll find a combination that works.
