2001 3.2TL Trans flush.

Does anyone know if I can do a complete trans flush using the Jet spray hose by applying low pressure air to flush thru the the torque converter with out going thru the 3x3 method? I do know that the fluid goes thru the filter/screen then to the Jet spray and back into the engine at the back of the block. Please let me know. Thanks.

Tranny flush is not recommended at all for our cars.

So, your telling me that.....there is no way to make shure that all of the old fluid is out? Also, you never explained WHY tranny flush is not recommended. When they assemple them at the plant they are empty. So, please expain. Thanks.

flushing by machine introduces higher pressure fluid flow rate than normal

Most places dont use the correct acura atf in our car--some even using dex3!!
which is death fluid for us,, and the reason acura even has the 3x3 in the owner book--for complete fluid removal-- if even slight amount of dex3 added in an emergency topoff!!

along with the added cleaners in a flush that may wash away crud holding marginal trans clutches together--thats the main concern,,a rush of additives-
even doing a 3x3 on high miles never been changed fluid- can be a problem creator
So what method you do depends on the trans service history

to get all the fluid out: you do a 3x3 with 12 qts total--trans holds 7.4 so thats going thru extra to get all the hiding places cleaned out too..read owner book

100kmiles and 10 years ago- what the factory was able to get away with new -1 time filling--has no relative bearing on protecting and saving your trans now

why do you want to do a 3x3--changing to redline atf?
otherwise do 1, 3.4 qt drain and refill- see how it goes..they call it 3 but patient people get 3.3 -3.4 qts out at a time,,buy 4qts per session!

the other 4 qts of trans capacity are trapped in the torque convertor when stopped

If doing 3x3 you need to do it by the book--5 minute drive between each drain using each gear to move fluid thru and to the drain point

wait a day between... and all you did was mix old and new

detwn--you are new here- take the time to scroll down the main thread area, plus the problems section, and performance sections too
most questions have been answered 100 times before= including why we dont use a machine of any kind

Thanks for the reply.....I do know the results of using flush solvents will do and using a machine. Machine and solvent will not be used. I do know what is recommended about fluid change using the 3x3 method. Total fill (dry) 7.6qts. If I were to change to the type of fluid how do I ensure that all the fluid is removed and avoid fluid mixing, short of dropping the tranny and draining the TC. The car was owned by an elderly gentleman and well maintained. This trans has the "Jet spray" along with the filter/screen inline with it. Thanks.

You are going to need a bunch of hose as the 00-03 TL doesnt have a trans cooler in the radiator to hook into.

This would have been easier for sure if it had a trans cooler and I know this does not. It would make life much easier. I should be able to run a hose from the trans mounted filter and the other hose to the supply port. From what I can see it runs thru the trans mounted filter/screen then teed to the "Jet Spray" then back to the trans. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks.

jet spray lol took me a minute to figure out:
He is talking about the `recall installed oil jet kit ` that occupies the normal atf filler hole

doing a manual drain and fill- the 3x3--with 12 qts,,will remove as much fluid as you are ever going to get out
Acura felt it was enough to remove a damaging fluid....good enough for us

elderly gentleman owner probably has the most crud buildup
Start with a 3 qt change, observe fluid condition, send sample to blackstone labs
and know what the real condition is- how to proceed

the atf drain/refill is easier than a normal engine oil change,,there is no spin on filter to run hot fluid up your arm!
(there is, but we dont replace normally)

even me,,sometimes I will give an extra hand if they dont seem to be getting it,,
or I see incorrect information that will lead to trouble

not trying to be a know it all--just knows a bunch about certain things ~vehicle related~ and read tons of gen2 and 3 azine threads on what goes wrong for us--so I pass that information along

thankfully some ziners have stepped up recently and allowed me to sit back and enjoy life more--with good weather coming, the 2 wheel honda will seeing a lot of pavement time---with me on it~

Whats wrong with educating others ??
