Was driving my car whilst working today and noticed an unusual ticking sound coming from the bay. Leaned in closer and heard it coming from just one coil pack, which was also leaking oil. It’s strange because I just replaced my valve cover gaskets and tube seals and all less than 10k miles ago. I’ve noticed no change in performance or idle, no lights on the dash or anything else out of the ordinary. My assumption would be it’s a bad coil and I guess the seal on that particular plug needs to be replaced as well? Haven’t encountered an issue like this previously so would like further insight. what other symptoms? ticking? rough idle? perhaps the boot isn't seated all the way and the ticking is electricity arcing?

 

Other than the ticking and oil there are no other symptoms. Idle is normal and acceleration does not seem to have been affected either.

 

Were the spark plugs pulled at all? Double check that plug is tight.

 

yes, all spark plugs were replaced at the time as well. But yeah I’ll try that and make sure
