Its supposed to do that if you have a passenger in the seat. If the passanger is not sitting right in the seat that light comes on to let you know that the airbag isnt on so it wont hurt your passenger.

There is actually know sensor on the driver side to shut it down just if the passenger is not sitting right. I dont know if you noticed but if its working right that light should have only come on with people in the passenger seat.

the light will only come (meaning the system is disabled) on when a passenger isnt sitting right or if something small or light is leaning on it to shut it off. Its there to protect the occupant.

Items like laptops, book bag, grocery bag etc on the passenger seat will also trigger the SRS light

I also have the same problem, when a passenger is sitting in the passenger seat all "gangster-d out with the hardcore shoulder lean" it triggers the light to come on. I wonder if it stays on long enough it'll explode on the passenger.

i started noticing i have this problem now after i got out of work today. NOTHING and no one is sitting in my passenger seat and the side airbag light illuminates. i already knew and understand everything said above, so i took my hand and applied weight to the seat to see if the light would go out, and sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't. so when i got home i tried sitting in the passenger seat myself... and the light went out. then i got out of that seat and the light came back on. is this the SRS recall of which you speak of??

light shouldn't be on, with no one/nothing in the seat.....the recall was issued awhile ago.....if you go to the dealer/call em they can tell you if your car has a recall....

and as for trying to do this with your hand, its not going to work it will never give you a rgith reading, just because of the force you are applying, or just the location you are pushing on.....
