1999 3.2TL Engine Shaking Violently

Hi all, I have a 1999 3.2TL with 97k on it. As I was going to lunch today, the car started to shake violently. After stopping at the stop light, I noticed the shaking has not stopped and the engine light along with the TCS light came on even when the TCS button was not pressed. Then I had a hard time going past 20mph right after that. After I parked the car nearby and opened the hook, I can hear a timed thumping noise (about one second apart) coming from the left side of the engine (where the belts are). I had a chance to go about 40 afterwards (although it took longer to get up to that speed than it normally would), but if I try to go faster than 40, the engine light blinks. I know I need to get my baby checked, but any idea is great appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Problem solved, it was the ignition coils on cylinders 1 and 4.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Is it unusual for two coils to fail at the same time?

How much did they cost to replace?

I am not sure if it is unusual for two to fail at the same time, but with cylinders 1 and 4 next to each other, one could have ruined the other maybe? It also makes sense now why the car was having a hard time pushing pass 50 on the highway with only four cylinders running (not to mention the gas leak...).

In total it was $300 for the repair; $80 for each coil from the dealership and I got all the spark plugs replaced. It is a little pricey since doing a search on Acura ignition coils comes up with around $45 and this can be a diy project, but at least it's running smooth now.
