1999-2003 TL Transmission Oil Change

I'm going to be changing the transmission on my 1999 Acura 3.2TL for the first time. I didn't want to pay $60 to get it done when the oil costs less than $7, and the rest of it is labor. Can someone provide detailed pictrues and/or instructions on how it can be done. Also, how would I add oil once I am done removing (Can I simply insert it through the dip stick hole?).

Yes you can, its alittle tough unless you have a funnel with a small tip beacuse the dip stick hole is pretty small. You can also fill it from the ATF bolt. I just did mine today wasnt to bad.

Thanks for that information! Also, can you tell me exactly where I would find the bolt to remove the transmission oil, i cannot seem to find it (a pic would be perfect).

tranny fluid change is easier than an oil change.

1. jack car
2. remove drain bolt and drain fluid.
3. replace bolt
4. add 3 quarts honda z1 ATF or whatever fluid you want to use redline, BG, etc. with a funnel

you can find a funnel that will easily fit at walmart for a dollar.

honda z1 atf is $6 a quart x 3 $18 minimum.

I would do a drain and fill at least twice though. = $36.00.

Takes 15mins then drive for 10mins then another 15mins for another drain and fill.

I would look at the links for starters. 2nd the oil plug is on the oil pan and is a 17mm bolt. The trans drain is on the side of the trans and is a 3/8 ratchet end

If you got sludge on a straight drain- go back and do the flush method 2 more times until it looks good.
Your 2000 will be out of warranty soon- do all you can to protect your baby.

This should serve as warning to all
47k miles and he found sludge in the trans fluid!!!
Guess every 15k would not hurt to change it and prolong its life.

Wow, I didn't realize that this was such an imoprtant deal, I figured 100k would be a good time to change it. I am about to roll 50,000 miles, after reading this thread I think a tranny flush is going to have to be in order, as soon as it warms up...

thanks guys
