'02 Type S vs. Motorcycle

My wife was in a head on collision with a motorcycle traveling the wrong direction on the highway. Haven't heard from insurance yet as to whether it will be totaled or not. Can anybody guess from the picture? From the doors back it appears fine, no damage to the roof. I can't tell if the engine is moved back, but it looks like the engine itself is ok, the front header could be damaged.

If they do total the car, is it worth buying back and parting out, or should I just let it go? We just put a set of Yoko Avid ENVigors on it that drove great, new rotors and pads, and the new timing belt/water pump etc. was on for exactly one week before the crash. I'm not that concerned about the money spent since we should get most of that back from insurance, but I hate to see all of these good parts go to a junkyard.

You're going to need to host your pictures somewhere so we can see them (like imageshack.us).

Sorry about that, the link was there, but the extra stuff made it not work right. Try this:

I dont know too much about what it takes to be totaled, but it looks pretty bad to me. Ive seen other cars with about the same damage that were considered total. Dont take my word though, sorry for your possible loss

I'm going to have to agree with Steen. My dad's '00 RL recently had its bumper ripped of from the side and apparently that was enough to total it. They'd probably be concerned with the state of the frame, and it looks like some of the impact got into the manifold/engine/etc.

The motorcyclist was the one going the wrong way, and it was due to a poorly marked intersection that is under construction, several more cars came down the road going the wrong way after the crash. Unfortunately, the rider died later at the hospital. They initially said he was stable, but he must have had internal injuries.

Sorry to hear about that - initially I thought it was a DUI incident or perhaps the motorcyclist was running from the police or something - I shouldn't be so quick to jump to preconceived notions...

Hope your wife is ok - that type of accident can be quite traumatic.

Sorry about the TL - looked clean too..

Make sure you have receipts for everything you did to the car. It helps a lot when dealing with the insurance company.

You need to see what the insurance company wants to do with the car. You might be able to buy it back for cash but you'll have to negotiate that with the ins co.

If it were me, I would not say anything about buying the car back until they come up with a settlement amount.

but those reciepts have to be somewhat recent though, like within the last 6 months or so (but like aftermarket upgrades, those reciepts can be older though)
