Hello friends, my name is Joe, I recently purchased a 2001 Acura 3.2 TL w/ 260,000 miles on her from a good buddy of mine, I was aware that the transmission was shot, he told me the story of how he killed it, he said he was on the hwy going about 60 and went to pass a semi and floored it as soon as he put the pedal all the way down the car shifted extremely hard and he heard a big clunk, he pulled off on the side of the road and turned the car off immediately he went to start it back up and everything seemed fine, he shifted threw first and second good then when he got into his third he said all rpm was lost, my first thought was either clutch pack, shift solenoid, or torque converter, so I bought it off him for 500 anyway drove it home in the sportshift 2nd gear because i did not want to go into third, so I got it home and ordered all new shift solenoids, filter, and transmission fluid installed everything took it for a drive and same problem occurred, I’m at a loss so I bought a scanner hooked it up and got the code P0730. which is a incorrect gear ratio, so do I just go ahead and buy a remanufactured transmission or what sum one plz help!
Welcome to Acurazine. Have you made any more progress on the TL? What other vehicles have you owned prior?
No progress yet, I will be starting on it very soon tho, I’ve owned 4 vehicles in the past 08 f150 4.6, 04 ford f250 v10, 2014 equinox 2.4, and a 99 Saturn but this one I have the most feelings for so l must get it back on the road at all costs.
Sounds like third gear is toast. Don't waste money or time and do an AV6 swap.
Also, do not trust anything but OEM or Rostra shift solenoids. Most of the aftermarket ones are garbage. Brand new cheap linear solenoids are known to throw codes because they are not calibrated properly.
