Got a quote to install my camber kit. $100-250 depending on how seized everything is. I said fuck that and decided to do it myself.

I used this DIY: https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-tl-performance-parts-modifications-116/spc-rear-camber-kit-627422/

Thanks to Harbor Freight and its wide selection of adjustable sockets/extensions, I was able to get the job done without lowering the subframe. I didn't even end up using the impact gun.

Really all you need is:

metric swivel socket set
1/2" extendable rachet
tie rod separator fork
hammer
pliers

i got everything at HF.

Since all that epoxy added a lot of weight (and the hood does have imperfections), I've been toying around with this idea......

My ultimate cooling mod:

Name: HoodDesign1.jpg
Views: 72
Size: 55.2 KB

It wouldn't be covered in gutter guard. It would have a tray underneath the hood to give it an effect similar to a reversed NACA duct. The tray would be made from premade thin Carbon Fiber sheet.

Few things I've learned about vented hoods:

-the closer to the radiator the vent is, the better
-the design of the vent ideally creates a vacuum over the opening, thus sucking hot air out of the engine bay
-the vent needs some kind of ram/scoop/louvres
-just having an open vent with chicken wire is not as effective
-the louvres will also help redirect water and dirt

I considered just doing the Ultimate Cooling mod from the 3G side but our cowl is not as restrictive as theirs. It is completely different.

I also considered drop in hood vents from a Mini Cooper, GT500, Lancer Evo, and even an 88 Thunderbird. But I don't think they will be level with our hoods. So it would take bondo and glass work to mold in it, which I don't want to do.

I would be cutting out a lot of the hood support structure. My theory is that the epoxy and CF have added enough strength so that it doesn't matter.

And the biggest question of all....is it ricey? Not sure. But it will be functional

An example of DIY hood vent (without louvres/scoop)

Notice that the largest vent is towards the front.

^ I personally like the idea...just not sure if it would go well with the TL's elegant styling. Will have to see.

Yeah I figured it would match the CF hood and trunk and the new side skirt extensions. As far as the shape of the vent, what do you guys think?

I made some more designs

Name: HoodVentDesigns.jpg

EVO 7 Opt 2 is just Opt 1 but the vents are shorter and closer together.

I'm leaning towards EVO 7 Opt 1 as of now...

I really wish I could throw my hood onto a water jet and cut out a nice accurate pattern but for obvious reasons, I am limiting myself to straight lines right now. I will use a 1.5" hole saw for the corners.

I'm not sure if I posted it but yeah I'm in the process of CF laminating my hood. The pictures above are with the resin sanded down.

I want to cut the vents, smooth the edges, spray clear coat, sand with 1000, spray clear, sand with 2000, spray clear, buff.

Based on EVO 7 Opt 1, I gave the shape some arbitrary dimensions. These dimensions are the center-to-center distances of each 1.5" diameter hole.

Hand drew it

Gonna tape them to the hood tomorrow morning to see how they look and where exactly I can place them.

Doesnt look TOO bad but i myself wouldnt do it in those spots. I thought you were actually gonna do it like how the S2K has it, right down the hood on the left side. I looked at our hoods and we have almost the same spots we can do it.

^ Which spots would you cut out? The spots on the outside of the "V" shape are above the battery and other wires so I didn't want the vent there.

Also the vents on that S2K are on the side where the exhaust headers are. Since we have headers in the front and back an asymmetrical vent wouldn't make sense. Also, I like symmetry lol. Just my thinking.

Sorry late response on this but hood spacers are not the best way for venting heat out of the engine bay.

Quoted from a Miata forum where hood venting is very popular, obviously because Miata's are great track cars.

The problem with that theory is that the base of the windshield is a high pressure area. Lifting the trailing edge of the hood will raise relative pressure in the engine compartment. Which is exactly opposite of what you want for improved cooling. For air to flow through the rad there has to be a pressure differential ie. more pressure in front of the rad than behind. Everything else being equal, lifting the back of the hood should decrease the volume of air crossing the rad = no good.

Basically, aerodynamics usually go against intuition lol.

Well if you're doing this for performance wise then the front would make sense but others might not know that and think wtf. Cut the right side of the hood like the S2K, if im gonna do it i'd do it the same as the S2K just for aesthetics.

Yeah I think that would look good too. But again it would be asymmetric because the other side would have the battery right under it. You should totally do it haha.

Hopefully, that manifold plus that hood should give you much cooler air going into the engine.
