the start of a semi aspec conversion

Since the look of the aspec has been growing on me since i've learned of its existence, its time to start adding those subtle difference that make it look good.

First start, color matching the grill to NBP. Painted by a friend of mine with a couple coats of clear over it. The camera battery was dying when i was taking these, so i'll post some better ones if the weather ever clears here in new england.

Parts Painted

Parts Installed

Next up is a JDM Spoiler that will be on its way shortly, Going to put in 2 rows of red leds to replace the green ones that come with it, and black out the third tail of the spoiler.

After that is semi aspec style floor mats, basicly having the words 3.2TL Type S embroidered into my stock 02 floor mats. Not going to have aspec embroidered nor put an aspec badge on the back since the car isn't an aspec.

Still looking to piece together a cheap oem kit. and still not brave enough to black out the headlights yet. Then we'll see where we go from there.

NBP looks the best with a painted grille. I'm gonna paint mine soon too, and I've already blacked out my headlights. Trust me, get some balls real soon and paint your eyes!

the lower part that attaches to the gril is 75125-S0K-A01
the upper part on the hood is 75120-S0K-A02

getting teh spoiler from another member here on the forums, he has both versions one with and one without the rear camera and since he is putting the one with the camera on his car he is selling me the one without.

As far as the green lights, like i said i'm planning on swaping out the green leds with red ones and hooking them to the rear taillights so they operate like the aspec. When i get the spoiler i'll have some pics of it and the led conversions etc.

I love that spoiler, i see about the green lights, but do they only blink when the signal is on? or can you make them red and have them as a marker light?

Nice..I'm doing mine next month when I get my beater, so I can leave at the shop. All you need to do now is clear your lights.

The green lights in japan are appently like marker lights already. The other member took out the green and decided he wanted to use them as blinkers so thats how he hooked them up. BUt i'll be replacing the green with red and using them as marker lights just like the canadian aspec does.

I bought a quart of it from local paint shop that color matches based on both color code and vin number so the paint is exactly the same that was used to paint the car. I need it since i've needed it to paint the body kit, aspec spoiler, headlights, engine covers, etc so it has gotten plenty of use and still have over half left.

I have since blacked out the headlights. And i still haven't installed the sidemarkers yet, the jury is still out on that for me.

I wanted to do the same with my grille too, I already have the paint and everything but i have one problem!!...How do you get that upper chrome grille piece off of the car?? (The part connected to the hood)...I'm sure it isn't too hard, i just cant figure it out.
As far as getting the piece off the hood, if you pop the hood and feel your hand behind where that trim goes you will feel 4 holes with 4 bolts behind them, i forgot what size they are try like a 10mm socket or something along those lines, there are 2 on the ends and 2 closer to the middle that you need to take off. It will still be a little tought to pull off i think u need to slide it either to the left or right a little as u pull, i forget it was like a year ago.

Thanks, Ill try it some time in the next couple of days. It somehow just got cold as hell outside. I did the lower part of the grille yesterday so everything is black except the middle Chrome Strip, "A" emblem, and the Upper Chrome Strip. Still looks pretty nice so I dont mind if i cant get to the upper part reaalllly soon.

Yes, lay a layer of primer down (color depending on what your base coat color is), then the base coat color of your choice and then a layer or more of clear coat on top of that. For small pieces a small airbrush hooked to a small air compressor works fine for spraying all the paint. Just make sure you mix it all with the correct stuff.

those lights on the spoiler really do make it look like a space ship on wheels. Especially the green lights make it look dumb. Just my opinion.

i never realized there was a real a-spec of a 2nd gen... anyone have a pic of a real a-spec??

the painted grille looks odd to me... if you're gonna colormatch the chrome surrounds, then might as well paint the inner chrome strip too IMO

I think the inner chrome strip replicates the ASPEC grill to a T!

Aspec interior is sooo sweet, thats the car i originally wanted but since I wanted to buy this car myself i had to go with the 2000... those cars go for a good price still and I heard that you have to have an A-spec in order to order the spoiler from the dealer :'( .... I believe penance on this board has an A-spec

EDIT: nvm... he has TL-S Rims.. therefore TL-S
