Pics of B-Pillar Repaint

There have been a couple of threads about problems with paint peeling from the B-pillar.

Link to other threads

Some people have covered theirs with Carbon Fiber and some people have repainted theres. I was lucky and had someone at an autobody painting place who did all the prep and paint work for me. Due to the size of the pieces he couldn't use the spray room but did the best he could free hand in a sheltered spot.

I don't know if the pictures due it justice but it is way better then it was before.

pillars

Was it a mission to take those off the car? Did you do it your self, did you have any kind of D.I.Y. to remove these? I have a friend that has a bike shop and they do paint and was thinking of taking that there and getting it done. Let me know how you removed those pillars.

How do you guys think it would turn out if I did it with a can of high gloss black made by Duplicolor and go over it with a clear coat? I may try it this weekend, but I don't want to mess it up.

as long as the black is a base clear paint. Putting it over a gloss enamel wont do any thing good.

I am assuming the can will say if it is a base clear paint. I don't know much about painting. I was assuming I could just sand it down, prime it and repaint it...but I am not sure how well it would match. I should have kept my old drivers side ones so I could practice.

Yeah, $200 seems a bit high. It's doesn't take very long to get the pillars off and painting them shouldn't be that expensive.

Getting mine done was around $50 for all 4. That's with my friend doing all the prep work and painting.

Regarding the DIY. There was one somewhere on this site. If I can take it off, anyone can since I'm not the most mechanically inclined. You just take off the screw on the upper coner of the door under the rubber strip. No really pulling or anything to be done, just gently pull back and look for the screw. Then with the windows down. Pull the rubber from the inside of the window on the side nearest to the b-pillar. There should be 3 screws in there to remove. Don't worry all the rubber pieces go back easily. Once the 4 screws are removed. Push in and up on the B-pillar and it pops off. To put back on just reverse the steps and I used a small piece of wood or plastic to help tuck all the rubber strips back in nice and tight.

I actually gotta take mine back off again because I think something is a little funny since I hear a clicking sound coming from the rear driver pillar. The rest are fine, so I'll just take it off, clean it and replace it.

Good luck and have no fear with the help of the people here you can get anything done. I'm still building up the courage to wetsand the pillars but maybe one day. I still have the 1000 & 2000 grit paper from sanding my head lights so maybe during the summer I'll do the pillars.

HAHA, several months later, i find myself quoting my own self now because now im actually ready to have the pillars painted at a body shop. I'm pretty much done with my car so its the last cosmetic thing really in adittion to some chrome muffler tips. What did you mean free hand painted it though, like, he used a professional spray gun and sprayed them the same way basically that he would do to a car he's painting. Cuz if i take mine to a body shop and they say they cant do it in the paint room or whatever its called, i dont want them taking a regular can of spray paint and sprayin mine with that. I want the paint job on the pillars to look like a cars paint.

Either way would yeild a job that you couldnt tell the difference if done correctly.

And why couldnt they spray them at a body shop. They paint small parts all the time (like mirrors and trim)

I dont know, thats what the original poster of this thread said. He said the shop couldnt paint them in the paint booth or whatever its called and had to do it free hand and thats why i was like, WHAT DO YOU MEAN EXACTLY BY FREEHAND, meaning pro spray gun? or Spray can from walmart or somethin? Thats why i had asked that ya kno. I'm at the dealer right now in ft lauderdale and i think im gona go walk across the street to the dealers shop that sprayed my side skirts a year ago, i paid the guy 200 bucks to paint them and i assume he pocketed it on the side because there was no paper work or anything, he painted them, i picked them up and gave him the cash in the back of the shop so hopefully he is still there will be down to give me a good price to paint the pillars. The dealer just told me like 15 min ago the pillars are $64 a piece. FORGET THAT. PAINTIN THEM FOR SURE.

I think a lot of these people still post on here..

Did you repaint over the vinyl wrap or strip the pillars down? I'm thinking of tackling this soon.

I took everything off with 320 grit and then started with a primer.
