I see you have a Pioneer AVIC Z1... I was thinking getting one myself for my 02 TL
and i wanted to see how it would look. If u have any pics i'd appreciate it.

Did you run into any issues with the installation?

yeah its a pain, enless you want to pay 250 for the install kit. but im stubborn and bored. i havent gotten it into the car yet, but that is not what i was worried about. making the mounting kit was the hard part. follow that thread and i update it with progress. i also have pics of all the steps incase i feel like making a diy for it.

Figure out a location for the GPS antenna yet? I've read they say keep it about 12" away from another antenna but on the TL the antenna is on the rear window. I would of thought that would be the best place to mount it.

if you remove the cover for the stock sub... that whole peice including the 3rd brake light, you can put the antenna there.

I just checked and if u put it right between the 3rd brake light and the window. it is trapped inside and it would not crimp the wire or put any stress on it.

Do you know where I am talking about? If anything run the wire down the center to save some slack.

I just did it myself actually.

If you remove the rear seats it is easier but if you dont it is just slightly harder.

If the rear seats are removed just pull up, the clips will snap out.

If not...... If you remove open that cover holds a clip in the center, you can pull up and snap that out as well. Then use a 12mm bolt to remove that clip. Then from the left and right side, wedge your fingers in or a flat head screw driver on each side and wedge it up.

I didnt have my camera today, otherwise I would of taken pictures for u. I can show u the final product.

Open cover #20, pull out so it looks like #16, remove bolt and wedge.

tight, thanks again man. that was so very helpful, i didnt even think of that. i might put foam under the whole housing to prevent rattles of the new subs.

thanks man, i pulled the stock sub, which is inverted design, which is random, its not like there isnt room. i mounted the antenna to that brace that runs under the 3rd brake light but is kinda under the sub grille. thanks for the help, i finished the avic z1, its great. check it out

Does it receive the signal well there though? I thought sub grille would cover it and stop it from working. It would be nicer to mount it there so it is totally not visible.

nope works perfect. the rule with satellite antennas are they they dont have to be visible or outside. they just cant be covered/ blocked by metal. i mounted ontop of the metal and its only blocked by the window and the plastic. some people mount them inside the side mirror, or under the front dash. its not a line of sight thing, its a uninterfered radio signal.

thx for those pics bxscig, i just rewired my xmradio. Took the antenna off the truck so it stops scratching it as it slides around even though its magnetic, it doesn't stick well when waxed. I just drilled a hole through the plastic to snake the wire through then double sided taped the xm antenna over the hole in front of the third brake light.

Now i don't loose signal either when the trunk is open. Thx dude
