New LED gauges (pics)

So i took out my reverse gauges and decided LED's are the way to do it. The needles dont look bright because I have the dimmer set on half cause the gauges are too bright. I'll adjust the lighting later on. Sorry for the bad pics from my phone, will take some later when i find my digital cam. Here they are:

How did you get teh #s white and the lines blue?

Also looks like the lower portion of the cluster isnt lit (like the 240 and the E in the fuel)

Does it look kind of stupid with the needles so dim with the super bright #s and notches? Where did you get the LEDs from?

These pics are taken during the daytime. I'll post night pics tonight. The needles match the brightness of the gauges, but when the dimmer is turned down, they look a little less brighter. i'm going to fix it later on this week, i just ran out of bulbs.

Hey Varun....nice work man...thats gotta be one of the nicest, if not THE nicest LED setups i've seen in the TL. Can't wait to see ur night pix....now I really can't wait to try to do this setup in my car this summer. I'm coming back to Calgary later this week for spring break, might be up in E-town next week, if i'm up there definitely gonna try see if i can meet up with u and see the setup in person.

Once again man....nice work

HOLY SHIT, DEFF THE BEST LED CONVERSION IN THE TL IVE SEEN YET!!!! THAT LOOKS FUCKEN AWSOME, ITS PERFECT. So the numbers are white, notches are all blue, and the needles and red line are actually full red and not partially lit red???? THATS AMAZING. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO DO THE GAUGE CLUSTER?? Where did you get the LEDs from and are you a pro at soldering or did you just decide to give it a shot and use some common sense??? Oh and how much did it cost you for all the LEDs?? If its around 100 im doin it for sur. Let me kno.

Thanks guys. Yah Jack just let me know when ur here, we'll meetup. Here's a few more pics, again with the camera phone. These are from inside the garage. U can see the needles are fairly bright, but again, i'm gona have to brighten them a bit more. My phone camera isn't very clear, but because of the way it picks up light, the gauges look too bright. They're not that distracting.

Yup. and the red line is full red. I made the longer notches on each RPM number bright, and the ones around are slightly dimmer. Same with the Speed gauge and the other gauges. Its almost identical to the new TL gauges. It took about 5 hours to do. Fairly easy, just a lot of patience. No i'm far from pro, i just gave it a shot to see if i could do it. Altogether this whole mod cost me about $55.

$55 WTF, tell me right now where you ordered your LEDs from??? I'm doin it!! Yeah i can handle being patient. Did you follow the DIY on ledautomotive.com?? If you didnt, we deff need to know what you followed in order to do it??? I mean, your saying your far from pro so if you can do it, then i should be able to as well. Wheres the DIY you followed???

Also, how did you make certain parts of the gauges more dimmer then others?? And how did you make certain things a specific color from the rest of the parts without having the other colors spill over into the other parts of the gauges??? I'm deff gona need full instructions.

haha. ok ok. Its all 5mm LEDs in the gauges. what i did was take the needles off, and use nail polish remover to take all the blue filter off the back of the gauges so teh white doesn't shine blue through it. I sanded the top of the LEDs with a dremel so they're flat and glued them right up to the back of the face of the gauge to keep them in place (there is a clear plastic piece that's under the gauge face, i guled to that). And after taht you just have to sauter them together and attach the resistors. I put one LED behind each number, and one LED behind each notch that's above the numbers.

this made the notches above the numbers brighter, and the others in between slightly faded. Looks just like the new TL gauges. I'll post some better pics.

Question

You gotta post some better actual digital cam pics for us all. You did a really great job and we all appreciate your work cuz its like a contribution to the community you know, but the way you said you did the mod sounds like it was easier then the way the other DIY has you do it. Is it possible to oversand and sand too much off the surface of the LED??? What is the mcd your talking about between the 5K and 7K??? Also, what color does the display at the bottom center of the speedo light up as??

thats very nice very very nice.... post a pic on how u did the resistor cuz when i did my dash led mod, i had to use resistors too, but it was ez to put on since its a flat back socket holder for the bulbs, for the gauge bulbs its the push in, quarter turn, wit it sticking out...thats really nice tho man....someone else did one here too, wit a WDP tl, forgot who...
