country livin...
it's a little known fact that birds can hear the different tones made from their poop hitting various surfaces.
the plop on concrete sounds entirely different than the plop on car hood. or even glass.
we have huge starling migrations here in Kentucky. millions! and I've tested this numerous times with trash can lids, plastic tarping, and even an old snare-drum!
I'd find a spot in my driveway covered in starling droppings, then put the snare-drum in a clean spot nearby THEN hose off the old poop strikes pre-drum.
guess what, once one starling hits the drum... they all start aiming for it. the spread over several days was about 90%!!! The drum was covered! and in a spot not previous known for droppings. Even if I moved the poop-splattered drum, they would find it and aim for it.
in the days following I was nearby to hear a strike and must admit it sounded pretty effin cool on a snare-drum. And that was with my human ears. Imagine bird ears! Echo location, yada yada.
So birds aim. Not to piss you off... but because the sounds amuse them. It's like their chocolate, once they heard the snare-drum, they all wanted to hit it.
Im not making this up.
some squirrels watched me fuss with a poop-covered drum and they'd come investigate it when I'd go inside and watch from a window. It wasn't long before they were throwing acorn shells on the drum! hitting it from way up in a tree!
they, too, enjoyed the sound.
It's not like they have television.

NOT cool... just washed my car on saturday when i was back home, parked it in an area of my driveway with no trees overhead so no sap/bird droppings would get on it, an hour later there were three huge circles of bird doodoo on my rear windshield and on my trunk.. 
i was like, really?

yup. without a garage or overhang, fly-by birds are gonna get ya. to see them hit an 14" snare drum from 30' up makes me think their aim is far greater than anyone expected.
with the starlings, I swear some of them made second passes at the drum. no lie.
