How do you like my FAKE HDR pics!
Messing around with some crappy pics I took on Photoshop...Yeah took me about 3 minutes to create em LOL.
This one's horrible but you get the idea.

All I did was took a picture, then went to photoshop...duplicate layer, desaturate, invert colors, gaussian blur and finally set the layer to "overlay"

what's with everyone's fascination with HDR these days? I don't understand it, it's not like HDR will magically make any picture 10 times greater. HDR will never be able to compensate for composition or focus, which is even more important. I understand that this is a “fake” HDR, but I’m assuming that what you’re trying to accomplish was to represent a “real” HDR.
HDR stands for high dynamic RANGE. Most commonly used when the picture is tough to expose correctly since there is a combination of darks and highlights (like trying to take a picture of a sunset with details in the foreground for example) you’d either be forced to expose for the sunlight and have everything else come out dark and almost silhouette like, or expose for everything else and have the sky be blown out. The processed you used in photoshop is not HDR. HDR involves taking multiple exposures and combining all of them to create an image that would not possibly have been able to be captured with just one single exposure.
Take this picture for example (it’s the best one I could come up with quickly)
It’s created from these three images
The point of HDR is to capture the details in the shadows and the highlights and blend them all together.
I’m not trying to put you on blast or anything but theres a number of people that post examples of “HDR” pictures and they’re not even anything close. If someone is going to attempt HDR, at least do it right. Find the right subject, take the proper # of varied exposures, and for gods sake when you process it, don’t make it look like an acid trip It seems like HDR is the new JDM or something, some sort of acronym that’s just thrown out there and has become so generalized.
ts_vaj, theres a ton of information on the web on how to create HDR images, here’s a quick link with a few guides, it’s a good read. If you're thinking of trying out some HDR shots, research a bit on how they are made and the concept of doing an HDR shot.

I’m no HDR master, and I’m still learning myself, but I feel that people need to at the very least learn the basics and principals of anything that they are trying to attempt. Again I’m not trying to bash, just merely trying to share and inform because there are a number of “check out my HDR” threads with similar overdone or wrongly done pictures and everyone is going “yea cool pics, you’re almost there!” when it’s far from HDR. That would be like someone posting up a picture of a riced out ford focus and proclaiming it “JDM” and everyone goes “yea cool, I love the nascar decals, the fart can and huge wing! JDM YO! Keep it up!”
