Engine Pics

I got bored Sunday and experimented a little. Not sure if I like it a 100% yet. I think I am gonna redo all the bolts in a high gloss black, not sure that the red looks good. Like I said this was an experiment and if I decided that I really like it, I am gonna redo it all. There are a couple spots that didn't come out so good but you can't really tell from the pics. I know there will be mixed reviews on this one, but what do you think?

Thanks for the comments.
So you think black would look better? I"ll have to give it a shot. High gloss black, right?

Yes, high gloss black. I think with the red it's too bright in there. Definate props on the color, I never seen anyone do it that color. I should be doing mine sometime this week in Metallic Green.

Yeah, I am not feeling the red on the middle piece. I think you should give the middle piece and the bolts a couple of fresh coats of black. Not sure about high gloss black though. Everything else has a brushed look to it, so I would probably prefer a muted black. The red lettering looks good though. My 2 cents.

I like it, but I think the bolts have to be painted black like you said.

i think u should paint the bolts silver too. the red kinda looks tacky on them, and silver will look better than black. i painted my engine silver like that last year too.

paint

What kind of paint did you use to paint the engine cover SSM? Was it done at a bodyshop or did you do it at home? Let me know what kind of paint was used.

Use satin black instead of gloss black. It'll match the black on the logo piece.

I used radiant silver metallic made by duplicolor and of course a primer and clear coat. I did it at home. I am not sure if I would like the bolts being the same color. I think it would need some contrast. I'll go with black for the bolts for sure, I am still not sure about the valve cover itself though. I am gonna talk to some guys at work and see what they say but I think that the black on the valve cover would look good...just not sure if it would be better than red. I went with the red to start with because the only thing under the engine that is red is the letter on the logo piece, so I wanted to put a little more red under there. Thanks again for the comments. If I have time this weekend, I'll make some changes and post the pics up.

Thanks again guys...I am going to experiment with bolt colors this weekend but I have decided I will leave the valve cover red. I am also going to repaint the lower portion again because of the blemishes that I can see. I'll let you know how it goes and I'll post pics again. Gotta go back out and get some more primer and clear coat...hopefully I can find the same silver.
JP...thanks, I was surprised at how well it came out considering this is my first time ever really painting anything. I am gonna try to get a good clear coat on it so that it will stay looking good. Maybe I'll even start waxing it.

Well, my honest opinion....I don't care for it. The red is too flashy. I can see the theme your going with, but it just makes the engine covers look plasticy to me. I would've went with a more subtle shade, but then again I rarely ever like red. It does have a show like appeal I think.

Not sure how you could make the piece with the Acura script tie in better with the center piece besides making the center a matte black.

I'm going back and forth. It's ok, but maybe if the bolts were black at least.

Thanks for the opinion Kieth. I was trying to match the color of the car with the silver. I knew I'd get mixed reviews about it. We'll see how it goes this weekend. Maybe I will come up with another color combo when I am at autozone figuring out what paint to buy.

Even though you have the Optima, the hoses and the AEM to put the red out there, the silver cathes the eye's attention enough. Maybe if you did a ripple red, B18C style. Not sure.

You need to move up here. I'd like to share the motivation to do simple mods like this too. Have a few I'd either like to try or pass on. You, JP and Kiran need to black out those housings!!!

oh....and it's EI (kEIth) hahaha

You just gotta get brave and do it man. I've made some mistakes on the mods I've tried but it was worth it to figure out how to do it the right way. I'm not gonna mess with my headlight, I like them how they are. I don't think I would even clear them because the amber breaks it up a little. I'll do some more messing around with the paint this weekend and see what I come up with. And sorry about the name...my fingers just weren't working right.

I'm picking up tiny ideas here and there. It's funny because now that it's warm out, my days have been filled with research and chasing down part #'s and what not. I have the weather to do it. But I'm busy in here or out in town running errands. Hope to knock out some stuff while the girl is out of town though. Did you see anything on that site that you liked for your next project?

Yeah, time is always a key factor in getting a mod done. Between school and work, I am surprised that I found the time to do this, but I did it in between homework and just had everything laid out on my deck. That site has some real nice colors. The only thing I can think of is coating my headers. I am not sure what jet coated headers look like but I wouldn't mind having a mirror finish on my headers. I think that would look good. I am sure that I'll think of some other stuff, but I don't have anything in mind right now. When does the woman come back? Mine has been failry supportive of me doing random stuff like this. But I did catch a ration of "Why the f*** are you doing this when you should be getting your homework and research paper done?" That lasted about 5 minutes, then she realized I wasn't gonna stop....so she stopped complaining.
