Custom LED shift gate

heres just a few pics of my first modifications. these are all from my cell phone so yes i know theyre bad quality. but i dont have a digital camera so this is just to give people an idea of what ive done so far...

First step: Resonator Removal

useless piece of crap:

Next step: LEDs

Map Lights. not sure if im gonna leave em blue or change em to white.

Dome Light. again, not sure if i want all blue or all white. trying out both.

Door Light.

And finally...drumroll please...

Shiftgate.

Before template is put on:

My custom shift template on the right. OEM on the left.

Final outcome:

The shift gate template is just something i whipped up real quick last night.
Process:
1. make black copy of OEM shift gate on flatbed copier.
2. color whatever you want black with black marker.
3. laminate.

Im gonna make a more permanent better quality template once the semester is over and i get more free time.

Oh yeah. all of the mods shown i did with $0 cost to myself. I got an electrical engineering buddy to hook me up with LEDs and he soldered a resistor to each one, wrapped it in electrical tape, and shoved it in the sockets.

Now im running out of ideas for free mods...lol. any suggestions?

oh forgot these pics of the shift gate in the daytime:

it looks better from far away. its just temporary anyways. i would never sell this to anyone. i just tried to do it myself since i saw someone else on acurazine selling a better version for like $20.

haha the hardest part was honestly trying to color within the lines. oh and taking off the damn shift plate. its almost like my shift knob was welded on too. i couldnt get the damn thing off. so i had to work around it.

but yeah its real easy. the process is exactly as i said before.
1. make copy.
2. color black.
3. laminate.

and i guess...
4. cut out.
5. glue onto shift plate.

Just a suggestion but you can put a piece of tissue paper right under the d5 to get rid of the hotspot.

oh yeah thanks i forgot about doing that. i also realized the D5 is a little offset lol. its not at all perfect right now. ill take care of it all when i spend some more time and make a better template. this one only took me about 15-20 min.

Looks good for now, however the painted ones look 100x better to be honest. The only difficulty in making those is aligning the letters.
One I made for a fellow member (messed up on the 2 )

You should of put HIDs in the fogs if you don't them already while you had the bumper off.

Did you also do the fog light mod? That one is very simple.

LEDs look nice. I have blue in my doors and white in the map and dome and it looks good. I get compliments on it all the time.

oh i didnt take my bumper off to do the resonator removal. i followed a DIY somewhere on this site and went through the splash shield. ive had bad experiences with pop-clips so until i buy a bulk package of em im not doing anything that requires taking off the bumper just yet.

HID kit for fogs requires $$$ lol. i just put in over a grand in timing belt, water pump, brakes, etc. i have to wait to buy stuff til late spring

^Its easy not to break em. Put your finger nail on the outer ring and make sure it doesnt move. Take a flathead, slide it under the middle piece, then rotate the flathead 90 degrees and there you go. I just took off my bumper today and no broken clips. Hope this helped.
