Post Velocity Stacks and More

I posted this within a CL thread I started based on some questions related to velocity stacks and wanted to cover the TL gang as well.

For those that don't know what a velocity stack is or does, here's a few links and some info to help you understand how it can add more power. And best of all, it's a fairly cheap mod.

Velocity stack is not a spacer, but an airflow inhancer that can be attached at various points along the intake system. In the case of the example of the one in the URL below the filter installs over it.

http://www.inlinefour.com/blvest.html

Note, the Comptech Icebox uses this basic same approach in the molding of the airhorn as I call it. In my case, not only do I have the CT Icebox, but I've attached a 2nd larger velocity stack to the front of my ram-air set up, which is at the very front of the CT intake system that extends outside the wheel well. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get it fixed. Had a little accident and need to replace the primary CT intake tube. Anyway, I gained almost 2ths at the track with this set up.

Dyno comparison.

Here's the link to the CL thread for more details. Note my last post on Excelerate carrying the Vibrant velocity stacks.

Not at this point. As mentioned in the CL forum I've had a bit of an accident and have to replace the CT lower part, which is on order. As soon as it gets in I'll fix it and post some pics.

No, it's a cheaper version from Spectre Performance that I modified to fit over the airhorn of the CT part. It effectively increased the opening by about 20%. That and the placement is what I contribute to a 2 tenth gain in the quarter mile. I'll post the pics once I get the CT replacement part.

Any idea roughly how much gain in whp with your setup over the CT Icebox alone?

Since I don't have a dyno, it's a guesstimate.

The CT Icebox according to dynos is about 14hp, and that dropped me about 1 tenth of a sec. Adding the ram-air with larger velocity stack dropped me almost another full tenth. So my guess is it's about 10hp or so, which is somewhat supported by the dyno I found.

Another note is that the velocity stack mod produces HP across the powerband, and the ram-air benefit increases as vehicle speed increases, so it's hard to produce dyno results.

just go on ebay, look up velocity stack and get the right size for your intake piping... most of those on ebay come with the right filter too...
