upgrading the sound system

I have always been interested in upgrading my 2003 TL's sound system, not that it's bad, but what would you recommend? i dont wanna spend more than $600 fully installed and it has to have an ipod hook-up

i currently have the stock system and i installed the USA Spec ipod interface

HU means head unit. And some speakers you could fit and some you have to modify.

I have 6.5" MB Quarts in the doors. They sound awesome!

You're not going to hear that much of a difference if you just swap out the speakers by itself. I'd upgrade the whole shbang while you're at it.
  • Head Unit
  • 6.5" Component or Coaxle Speakers
  • Amplifier
  • Subwoofer(s)

Factory BOSE :thumbsdow:thumbsdow

i read somewhere here that 2.25inches in depth is the biggest you can go on our front doors.

this is already including an mdf spacer (modifier).

the mdf spacer pushes the speaker out away from the window so it is closer to the speaker grill on the doorpanel. this allows you to use a 2.25in depth speaker.

Just get an aftermarket sub. even a single 10" or 12" would do. The stock bose one sounds like crap with that mod.

You need a stronger amp to push those W6's. Try the 1000/1.

IMO, I think most (if not all) music needs a little low end. I not only like to hear the music, but actually FEEL it too.

I'd say go with an Alpine Type R sub, its better than the factory Bose one, and its pretty cheap depending on where you look. My friend has one in his Integra and it sounds great, except its huge.

Good luck. The stock location only accepts subs that are low profile. (less than 3" mounting depth. The stock sub is a 9" That and the rear deck realy wasnt designed for a heavier sub. Your better off getting a aftermarket sub and box

another question then, when upgrading subs, do you hook up an additional and keep the stock or just trash that sumbitch altogether?

if you are going to put in another sub then you can just leave it in place. it causes no harm to anything that yo put in the trunk

I have two 12's in the back and I took out the stock sub completely. I noticed a better sound because the bass flows into the cabin. I also like to keep the armrest down.
