TL Vtec
TL Vtec
sup guys, i have a bone stock auto 2001 TL as my daily driver.....im pretty sure this engine has a SOHC.... is it possible to make it hit Vtec as hard as the other DOHC 4 cylinder engines..... dont knw anything about these engines so help would be appreciated.
welcome to the Forum- we have all the mods you can do for free and every price range- personal knowledge from use by members on nearly everything made for a tl
vtec comes on at 4700 rpm -it uses oil pressure change to signal an increase and operates the system- is your oil clean- it may need the oil passages cleaned too
I would suggest reading the DIY Seafoam threads and do that to clean the engine injection and internals and oil passages- it really is ~tune up in a can~
have a read of the owner manual for great operating tips and proper use of SS mode of trans- its fun when used properly- as long as you know of our weak 2nd 3rd gear clutchpacks and dont downshift in those gears too much
If car didnt come with one- they are free download-

You mean you want to hear the VTEC crossover like an Integra GSR, RSX-S, Civic SI? Well you won't, you can only make it more noticeable with an intake. The sound doesn't do anything, and you actually shouldn't be able to hear/feel it in order to make as much power as possible.
Do some searching around for mods that work, and mods that don't.

I can REALLY feel when the car hits vtec. It's a completely different car below 4700 rpm, then bam there is all this power. So I'm not sure what you are refering too.
Are you trying to lower the point which vtec is used?
I too would like a higher rpm, the limiter isnt a problem for me. I never got that fast anymore.

you can definitely make vtec hit harder. just get a real big turbo, like off a 18 wheel diesel. fit that into your car. it'll take about a decade to spool, and if you're lucky you'll get full boost at around 5500 when vtec hits. then you'll have vtec and about 200 pounds of boost to get you on your way
but to my understanding, vtec doesnt give any power right. it just unloads 100% of the power your car can make, while anywhere below vtec crossover you're running more conservative cam profile for better fuel economy and better idle? could be totally wrong here
if that's the case, honda coulda made vtec at 4000 rpm. i mean really, 90% of the time we dont cross 4000 in normal driving. anytime we cross 4k we're needing power, and what's the harm in giving it to us a little earlier
