TL 08 Type-S engine in a 02 Type-S?

Does anyone know if a 2008 TL Type-S engine will fit into a 2002 TL Type-S?
If it does, do you think it would be a tough swap? TIA

Yes it does fit, there are a few guys who have swapped the J35 engine engine in, and some have gone with the 6 speed as well.
You'd be looking for a J35A8, that's the exact engine code for the 07-08 type-s engine.

Most any engine swap is a difficult task. I would try and gain a lot more knowledge on the subject before attempting it. Be prepared to be without your car for a while.

Who has swapped that engine in?? We have done the 3.5 but it was adding the crank and rods from a mdx, or the MDX oddy 3.5 block (only certain years) I dont know of any that have done the whole engine. Things would have to be changed to get it to work, like the Throttle Body which wont work with out cars.

x2, i dont think that anyone has swapped an 07-08tl-s engine in a 2nd gen tl. they have done the 3.5 odyssey swap with rl pistons, rings, ect.

no 08 TL-S engines don't work...I'm not sure where you got the info from.

J35A4 engine or opr J32a2 Engine with Odyssey/Pilot crank, rods, bearings, and CL-S or RL pistons is the way to go.

That or do a custom J37 like my friend did.

Sorry guys, I made a late response last night, not thinking. I mistook guys swapping the J35A4 with different crank, rods, etc. for someone swapping in the complete A8 engine.

My bad for talkin' out of my ass.

What gains can you expect from this?

Suggest doing a search for more info but its going to be similar to that of the SC with the low boost pulley.

for those with 3.5 liter and 6spd swaps; was there enough space to keep all the nice stuff in the car like ac and power steering?

Its all internal, it looks the same from the outside, so yes.

There is nothing "larger" about the motor. Many use the stock TL block. Every thing is internal. As for the trans (6 speed) look at my stickied thread.

hmm ok maybe im not fully understanding this.
what all is involved in these 3.5 liter swaps? just the internals of the block?
if so why not just bore the stock ones out and add sleeves if neccessary?

I was thinking why would you want to even do this swap in the 1st place when you can go Comptech s/c'r or go all-motor with headers, exhaust, intake, RL cams (i've heard make gains in 02-03 Type-S) and you'd be well over the power of 07-08 Type-S. Ever see base 07-08 wasting money dropping Type-S motors in their cars..lol? No. Most are content after adding those all-motor mods available on the market.
