Thermostat
Thermostat
Wondering where the best place is to order a better thermostat. The reason is I live in Florida, it is around 95 degrees with 100% huminidy everyday here. When it rains and cools off to about high 70's my car is reborn again. Night and day difference. I dont know if anyone else notices it also, but my car hates hot weather. Its very sluggish. The cooler the weather is the faster and more responsive my car is. Any other ideas on keeping the engine cooler?
Dont do any of that stuff!
Does the car temp gauge go over 1/2 way a few marks below half is normal-
is it steady all the time or has it been different recently?
I can drive my TL in 105 temp with the AC on full from sealevel up 7000 foot mountain and still be 2 clicks below half- just like always.
100 degrees plus high humidity = 5000 to 8000 `density altitude`a thing they use to calulate airplane performace in different temps and conditions-
thin low density hot air for engine makes for little power.
So, its not going to run its best when its hot outside-
Thermostat sticking would cause the needle to rise and fall unexpectedly, or stuck unit would cause instant overheat or never gets up to running temp- no flow of coolant out of engine to the radiator-- where its cooled off,
the thermostat regulates open/closed valve WHEN the coolant temp sensor at the radiator says its hot and need to flow.
Does the driver side fan come on and off??- does it run after the car is shut down-
does that fan run at all?-Its important!
The coolant temp sensor often fails- cheap easy fix -screws into radiator bottem corner
What can you do?
A thermoblock spacer -special `heat isolator gasket` between the intake manifold and engine block- ~110 dollars, comes with TB spacer isolater gasket
There is another company with special longer piece-heat blocking spacer for TB to manifold- improves power and keeps hot away from intake air

the fan is set to keep the engine at a specific operating temp- change/lower that by 20 degrees... and now the engine doesnt run right! Everything is set and depends on each other being the same as spec
If you need a manual fan switch for control and think running it all the time is good for anything- you have a real problem to find and fix!!!
There is one for the aux electric fan on my old beater truck, with its water pump mounted fan blade,- no sensors involved- just flip switch for the fan mounted in front of the radiator
It ~shoves~ 600 cfm of outside air at the ac condensor and the engine radiator--
When pulling the camper or big hills approaching- on it goes, but the TL- and not racing it??...fix it right ---its cheaper in the long run

Everything is running fine on my car, but what I meant was that these engines like every other doesnt like hot weather, therefore they run slower. So I guess I need some thermospacers and what about that aftermarket thermostat that mugen makes?

where can i get a thermostat and how much and do anyone have a diy to replace the thermostat? i think its my thermostat cause the top hose gets hot and the bottom is not hot. my fan be going off alot and it seems like the neddle is like one or two clicks above the half line
thinhthan- Sounds as if you definitely have a cooling problem. Mine always runs below 1/2 on temp. gauge, which is what others on here state. Get it fixed pronto to avoid serious damage. Even if it doesn't spew coolant, long term overheating is very bad for your engine!
one hose hot and the other not- the other should be at least warm not cold
that is thermostat 99 percent of the time -and or a soft hose that can collapse under normal operating pressures
A stock Acura thermostat (or honda dealer) is what you need
The TL dislikes cheap replacement parts,,, as usual
To the question os SCd cars and fan switches- they are running different engine management profile- SC can create extreme heat in a very short time- so control of the fan in advance of need helps to speed cooling
In my truck pulling the camper and a big hill is coming - flip-on goes the aux electric fan- drops temp 20 degrees so as the engine works in the climb, the temp only goes back to ~normal~

You need the Mugen thermostat, Mugen fan switch and Mugen radiator cap. Mugen isn't a "cheap replacement part."
The Thermoblock spacers and a CAI would help a lot as well. Here are the Mugen part numbers.
Radiator cap: 19045-XGER-0000
Low temp Thermostat: 19301-XGMR-0000
Thermo switch: 37760-XK5-00N0

acura or honda will have one on stock, or, if you have verified all the other cooling parts are in order- then upgrade to mugen fi you want fancy
for now- I would go to honda and buy a thermostat and make sure thats the fix
if more than 100k miles on the coolant that needs to be replaced-- and you would be due for the water pump as well
