Question Temperature gauge not working

I hope I’m doing this right. I have a 2001 tl and can’t get the temperature gauge to work at all. I’ve replaced both cooling sensors with original equipment parts. Have also checked continuity of the wires from sensor to dash. I even drove the car to a junkyard and the guy let me try another instrument cluster. All instruments worked except the temperature gauge just like mine so don’t know where to look next. Any and all help appreciated. Also ok to fuss at me if I post something wrong.

Check continuity from the sensor the the ECU input pin. Then check continuity from the ECU output pin to the gauge cluster pin. If everything checks out, try a donor ECU to see if that fixes the problem. This would be exceedingly rare, and the first failure of that type I've seen.

I have done some looking and don’t know how to tell which are inputs and which are output wires on ecu. I actually tried another ecm but ran into the security problem. Engine would spin but not crank. The engine was at operating temperature though and the gauge still didn’t move from the lowest cold position. Resting on the peg at the bottom of the gauge. I had the code reader plugged in and went to live data and got the same results and with the original ecm on the throttle position sensor. With foot off the accelerator 99.2 percent open and with accelerator pressed to floor 100 percent open. Don’t know if these problems are related but other than that everything seems ok with the car. I did some looking on line and can’t find anything on input vs ouput wires on ecu.

Are you certain that you replaced the temperature sensor and not just the two temperature switches? According to the Honda parts fiche, there should be one temperature switch on the front cylinder head, and a second one on the thermostat cover. These likely control the fans.

The temperature sensor is near the thermostat on the water neck. I may be wrong about this since I'm much more familiar with the 1G CL, and the 2G TL might have a more sophisticated electrical system, but the sensor is likely wired directly to the temperature gauge in your cluster.

Here's the part number that I'm referring to: 37870-PK2-015

it's number 15 in the diagram.

Thank you so much. Can’t wait to go look. I replaced the one in the thermostat cover. It’s a switch only as far as I can tell. I also replaced the one just above it. It has green wire with a yellow stripe and a red wire with a white stripe going to it. I had no idea there was a third sensor at the water pump. These are seemingly complicated cars. I’ll let you know what I find and thanks again.

After much looking I can only find two sensors. One on the thermostat cover and one just above it. Replaced both and still no reading on the gauge. All input welcome.
