Question about headers
Question about headers
I got some questions because I am going to bid on headers on ebay.
1) Whats better OBX headers or MEGAN?
2) What gains do you get from headers?
3) Will it make your car sound louder/deeper and better at WOT?
4) Where can I get someone to put the headers on? *Muffler shop* Etc.

1. Neither, both of them have problems.
2. There's a thread in the Performance section with almost this same title. Answers are there.
3. No
4. Any mechanic can do this
These questions get asked almost weekly.

1)Megan is better than obx ceramic. However, obx stainless steel should be just as good
2)Should be around the same give or take a little
3)Yes the car sounds a lot deeper/louder at wot but before vtec its like stock just a little deeper
4)Any mechanic should be able to do it. I would say a fair price is 100-120

1. megans third batch I've heard is good, so is stone's 3rd batch(I love my stones)
2. no difference in performance in any brand of headers, comptech won't give you more power than obx, megan or stones, they are just higher quality and perfect fitment
3. I don't think there is much difference at all even at WOT, but with intake it is louder at WOT with headers than w/o
4. 200-250 is about the average install cost, 100-120 sounds dirt cheap wish I found a place to mine for that cheap, I paid 200 and that was the cheapest quote I could find

DO it yourself.... it takes 2-5 hours on a saturday and a socket set. 5 hours if you don't really know what you are doing.
I'm swapping my megan headers from my 99TL to my new 02TLS, I'll time my self but I honestly don't think it'll take more than 3 hours to take off my megans, put stock back on the 99, take off the stock on the 02 and put the Megans on the 02.
I'm semi comfortable around this engine because I've done this before, but I was scared as hell when I put the megans on.
The key to doing this yourself,
- check the bolts from the header to the cat, if they are rusted there is a chance you'll have to get a mechanic to LOOSEN these bolts.
- Also check the O2 sensor, I had to get my mechanic to loosen this as well, he had to use a torch to heat up the pipe (causing it to expand) just to get the O2 sensor loose.
All of that took 15 min of the mechanic's time and he didn't even charge me. I find, providing you have a good mechanic, if you tell the mechanic you want to "do it yourself but you may not have alll the tools for it", (ie. impact gun and torch in this case) they tend to give you deals. I hope that verbial diareah wasn't too hard to understand lol.

installing headers can be a bitch I looked at my stock exhaust mani, piping and connection to cat and said fuck this, I'll pay someone 200.00 to do this bullshit. I don't have all the proper tools and to buy the proper tools to just put your headers on would be stupid, but I do want an impact wrench set, full great neck ratchet set, hydraulic jack w/5klb stands, soldering iron, but will have to wait to win lottery because I will never buy junk only the best because it lasts forever like an Acura(accept 00-03 tranny, that's why I bought a 99, hahaha)!!!!

You should wait a day or so. I'm about to run a special on the Alpha Werks headers and they are far better than the OBX or Megan. Of course, you could always buy the Comptech headers too!
