Arrow Question about exhaust

So I'm new to this, but I've been lurking around here a while... I'm looking to get some new exhaust for my 03 TL Type S. I've looked at various catback kits and I'm liking the Magnaflows. My question is.. if I didn't want to go with an entire catback system, could I just install a couple magnaflow mufflers and get the nice low hum, plus a slight performance increase? Or would it be more feasible to go with the entire catback system?

How much wider are the pipes in the catback kit in comparison to the stock piping?

Thanks for any help you guys can provide!

there is no performance to be had with an exhaust on our cars. Its all about sound. I would just do a comptech exhaust or a custom cat back magnaflow setup. I would run a 2.25 no larger than 2.5

Thanks. Talked with a mechanic today. He's willing to install a couple magnaflows with new piping from where the "Y" in the exhaust starts. It'll cost me $430 with parts and labor.

there are so many options out there with exhaust. like kris said, there aren't much performance gains with them however. they are mainly for looks and sound. i would just find a good muffler shop and have them custom the work for you. $430 is way too much though. you might want to find other places. just as an idea, i paid $80 for nearly 2hrs. of labor.

I figured that was a little expensive. Problem is I could get the mufflers pretty cheap, except I can't find many shops willing to install them only.

Here are the mufflers I'm looking at by the way Magnaflows

Just need to find some nice tips. I find it hard to spend over 50 - 60 bucks for a tip.

Thats way to expensive for mounting a set of mufflers. Id look elsewhere.

Yeah, I figured that. I'm still looking around. Haven't decided on a shop just yet. That quote was with them doing custom bends from the mufflers to the stock piping right before the "Y" break.

Think I'm going to just pick the mufflers up from a local auto parts store, and find an installer separately.

Anyone know any good muffler shops in the Portland, OR area?

I paid $200.00 to get my catback installed. I only had magnaflow muffs, 18" magnaflow resonator and 2.5" piping in between. Meineke hooked me up with the rest of the piping (2.5") from the cat to the resonator. It is very deep and sounds very nice IMO. I did notice a slight in the pants gain in the high end and the sound and look is great.

I would go from the cat back with custom piping and a new 18" resonator.

Me too. I'm using Apexi instead of Magnaflow tho.
