Problem...

So I just go my Icebox and I'm tryin to install but I can't get the box fully apart. I can only get 2 of the 3 screws out....the final one just keeps twisting in the hole....You would think I would have to take the box apart to get teh filter out of the inside but the last screw refuses to come out? What is the deal? Am I supposed to pull it apart or what?

When I tighten mine I only go hand tight (that is hand tight on the socket extension bar itself - no wrench). Let's face it - you only need to snug them up. They're certainly no load bearing devices requiring any torque!

Once you get it out - you may want to consider super glue to secure the nut if it's an option for you (have read some cases where it is - some where it's not).

Regarding the link... 20k on a foam Icebox filter!!!!!! The recommended clean interval is 6k!!!

Yeah, I'm just callin CT tomorrow and telling them they need to just send me a new "box" because all of the other pieces work well. I magaged to get the box in with opening it up. The problem right now is becuase I couldn't open the box I could not screw it in from the interior to keep it firm in there, so it wiggles some.

Thanks. Mark

Wow! I guess I didn't catch on that this was a new install. Yeah - they ought to hook you up.

Just make sure you just snug them up like I said. You'll never have problems with them that way.

I"m actually really suprsied because CT is supposed to be a reputable company- then they go ahead and have a screw that is stuck in the molding. You just keep twisting it and it stays in the hole. It is going to be a pain to remove the bumper again just to fix CT's mistake. Maybe I'll order some fogs to atone...any idea of some nicer fogs than stock?

Thanks,
Mark

1. Relax - there aren't many complaints about that nut. Once they make things right you'll have a quality product. (I have over 20k miles on my Icebox)
2. You don't have to remove the bumper to get to the stuff on the bottom. Just remove the little black plastic press-in fasteners on the drivers-side bottom. It's like three or four clips and your can drop most of the quite a bit ofthe black air dam stuff on the bottom.

One other tip from me. I had a problem with my lower icebox scoop falling off the box and bouncing around on the plastic cover behind the bumper. No matter how hard I tightened it, it wouldn't stay on. It turned out that I had to trim some plastic with a razor blade from inside of the U slots they made on the scoop's connecter to get it to snug up properly. It was hard to tell that the scoop fell off, but fortunately I kept looking in through the slit over the foglight for a few days and ended up seeing it. An easy/quick check (for the first couple of days you have it installed) is to slap your hand on the bottom plastic air dam cover. If you hear the cone bounce around - it fell off!

Yeah, I was having trouble keeping the horn on as well. I could just pull off the horn, no matter how tight the clamp was. I pushed it up high on the connecting tube and it seems snug, but I wouldn't be suprised if it falls off. Thanks though.

Mark,
Sorry I didn't comment that the icebox is not a clean bolt on. In my experiences, I've never had something just "bolt on" without having to work the parts, trim something or whatever. I remember I had to trim some plastic when I installed mine and there were a few parts that were kind of tight.

I removed my bumper when I did mine, it just sounded easier and I wanted to see exactly what was back there. I was able to get the horn on pretty tight.
Also agree with the snug comments above.

I just ordered a K&N replacement filter. I have about 10K on the foam comptech piece....it's probably disgusting.

If you like working on cars and DIY's small problems, such as this one, that force you to extrapolate and use your resources are half the fun. I guess I was just expecting it to be perfect with CT. The main reason I flipped out was becuse if my mom saw the bumper off my new car she would have certainly lost her cool, so I had to go for the quick install before she got home from Las Vegas later that night!

Thanks

While you do not have to take the bumper off, doing so makes the Icebox install a lot easier.
