Performance Mod time: I/H/E/P/S

Now.. i know there are many threads out there wit hthe different mods but it would be really helpful if someone can name all the different mods i need to get my baby performing like a TYPE S.

Intake - what type? what brand? where is a good place to get it?

Headers - what type? (i heard xs is good), where is a good place to get it?

Exhaust? - i don't want anything loud so i might skip this if i can. if not, i wouldn't mind getting something a lil quieter that gives out performance. or like Kris stated, our factory exhausts are pretty good, except for the cat? and ya where can i get it?

Pulleys - have no clue what this is because i see tons of pulleys in the car hehehe but what brand should i get and where can i get this "pulley"

S .... i'm thinking stands for OE spacers? is OE the company? have no clue... please enlighten me..

now i tried the search function, its giving me too many results especially when ppl mention these in nearly every thread so BATMAN if u can help me out.. plzzz... and anyone else with the expertise. thanks

I'm done most of the other mods, waiting on the leds to arrive for OntarioTL so the cluster can be done, puttin in new Components on saturday and will be doing the LED mod (since doors are taken apart) ... want to get the performance done before spring so i can start having some fun!

Thanks a bunch guys..

I never said the cat was bad. Comptech is the quietest of the mufflers and in my opinion the most versatile mufflers of them all.

I really dont know what more info you need. These subjects have been beat to death with the results. AEM or Comptech for intakes. XS from ebay, Pulley only the UR brand like stated in every thread about them.Outlaw Engineering spacers.

how is "too many results" a bad thing? you should just search, and read up, and it'll answer all your questions.

thanks excelerate.. will do for sure... i trust you more then some random company on the web... hmm as for the salt.. well i'm up north and lots of snow here.. and this is my daily driver ( i refuse to drive some shitbox when i have teh luxury of driving an Acura during the harsh winter) ....

I had headers+intakes on my old ride but it was a ceramic header.... so i figured it wouldn't rust.. neways... cleaning the airfilter i'm cool with.. i was lookin at the COMPTECH ICEBOX.. but since Volly just got the AEm, i think i'll go with that... Comptech is a big rip off man.. the headers were going for freagin 1500$ CDN.... + shipping (ya okkk... ) + catback exchaust for 1500$ CDN + tax + shipping.. ahhaah OKkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk... i'm gonna check ur site excelerate and order some stuff through you.. since i live in Toronto, Canada..

Never learn if you dont try And if you never try you will never know how. Every one has to start somewhere. Most things arent hard at all if you know what a socket wrench and screw driver are.

i have bad memory problems so i tend to forget where something goes.. and its ok with small stuff but i don't want to forget to put in a screw here and there with the Engine... besides, i don't know which parts should come out first, which parts are harder to put back... what happens if i break a clip? can i still drive the car to the dealer to get it replacd or not etc..... questons like that tend to keep me away from taking apart the engine bay

however, saving these headaches, i don't mind paying a few $$$ to get the job done... but i still agree with u though..

its kinda hard to forget where things go. headers are really easy. intake is super easy. exhaust is just big and awkward. pulleys require some power. now spacers i could understand why you would not want to do that.

spacers are very easy, intake extremely easy, headers=PITA. exhuast, well I don't have a pipe bender or welder and bolt-on systems are expensive. Pulley I don't even want to try. I try to do everything myself now and most of the time it's the first time I've ever done it. I love to learn new things and become less dependant on other people working on my car.

Digital camera and ziplock bag. Take pics of parts to remember how things are routed/go. Bags for bolts and label them so you know. Just dont be afraid. Once you start getting your hands dirty you go for more. My hands didnt start out dirty, i had to get them dirty on my own.

i usually place bolts and nuts and stuff that comes off the car neatly and orderly into PLASTIC CUPS. Headers on the TL was the first thing i EVER did on a car and it took me and 3friends like 8hours...i've since then done everything from a tranny rebuild (what a bitch!!) to rear ends, few engine swaps (two of my own) etc etc etc! grease up that garage floor!

you can also use and mark separate ziplock bags when you need to stop and resume work a few days later

hmm i'll give it a shot i guess... i just don't have the time to take apart small lil bolts to get to the big parts since i use the car for work/school... and wat if i lose one of the bolts or it gets somewhere stuff (falls into some lil hole in the car thats hard to get at) .. or i come to a dead end where i need a special tool to take it apart? .. i dont have a manual.. nothing... so its pretty hard to just easily say that u need a camera and ziplock bags...

i'm sure u guys have more then 1 ride .

its all good. i'm known to get stuff done one way or another.... as long as i'm satisfied in the end.. i can careless how it gets done... yes i spend money on paying someone to do it.. but there are so many other things that i can do on my own that other ppl pay others to do for them... so i say its a win-win world we live in.

There are NO special tools needed to take any thing apart on these cars. Quit worrying about dropping a bolt some where. You drop a bolt you find it, or head down to the local parts store and get a new one. Nothing on this car that you would do as a DIY project should take more than a day. Plan it out on a sat that you dont have to do any thing. Intakes shouldnt take more than 2 hrs for those who have never done it before. and there isnt any thing to worry about there.

I just want to say that my TL-S is the first car I have modded.

I have installed my springs, icebox, header, and exhaust. Yes i've been through many problems, but ultimately I have learned how to do everything so that is the greatest reward.

I have broken stuff also (ultimately costing me money in repairs) well nothing serious, but while installing my springs I damaged my wheel sensor.

I am a prude person with no prior knowledge of cars, but I read up on everything carefully and just take my time. In the end it's worth it.

When I first got my TL I was afraid to touch it. Now that it has been 3 years I've put in coilovers, headers, intake... also removed the back seat several times for various reasons, and torn apart the interior more times than I care to remember. Once you get more comfortable with it you won't be as afraid. . Get someone to help you and do your research ahead of time. I always take my laptop with pictures and howtos and whatnot with me when I go to work on my car.

I already got comfortable with modding exterior/interior mods, but mods dealing with electricity or engine I am afraid to touch. I'm installing the V2 intake myself however.

I have never replaced an engine mount before and basically just did what I thought I should and I did it without a hitch. The front was a pain and the side was kind of a pian, but not a big deal really. The more you expose yourself to working on your car yourself the more confidence and understanding you obtain which makes future repairs and modifications easier to do yourself and feel comfortable doing. Now I can install a CAI on most any car in 30-45mins. Headers, spacers, upgrading all my ground wires, TB, IM & EGR cleaning, changing a starter, engine mounts, IAC valve, oil changes, tranny fluid changes, collant flushes, power steering fluid changes, whatever. I haven't tried brakes yet, but will this summer when I upgrade to some nice slotted Rotora's and Hawk pads. I love working on my car because it's fun to learn new things and it gets me out of the house for a few hours........even if it doesn't take me that long, haha.

^ Brakes aren't hard to do, provided you have the right tools! (impact wrench works wonders!!!) Take your time -- if you are really afraid, listen to fsttyms1 advice and take pictures. A shop manual will also help you figure things out (ie insurance policy).

Just dont break any thing and you wont have to have it down for more than a day

Dont be scared of tubes and hoses and fluids. As long as you dont drink any of them they wont kill you

( i stock most fluids in my garage just in case though)
