New to performance Mods

Hey all, I am new to this whole Performance Modifications and I have a couple of ?s

1. What are some simple mods (i am on a low budget) that help with performance on my 03 TL? A buddy and I are always trying to be faster. He has a Honda Accord coupe.

2. How can I get the fog lights and High beams to match the color of my low beams?

Thanks in advance for your help! I am anxious to go faster!! Atleast faster than my buddy!

Here is a list of simple engine bolt on mods that will increase HP:
1. CAI (Comptech icebox, AEM, Injen, etc..)
2. Header (Comptech, DC, XS, etc..)
3. UR crank pulley
4. Thermoblock spackers
5. VAFC II or AFC Neo w/ tune
6. Grounding kit + Voltage Stablizer
7. Custom Cams, etc..
8. Exhaust (Apexi, Magnaflow, Comptech)

depending on the brand, these mods can be expensive. start with I/H/E.
For the foglight question, you will have to get a HID foglight kit. Can be found in the groupbuy section.

Hey Leo Type-S and Sick Type_s, thanks so much for your help. I will check into these things this weekend. I am excited to see what I can do/learn. It might be a slow process due to the money situation, but I'll get it done. How much does these kinds of mods effect my MPG? I know...nerd question, but just curious. I am a graphic designer (Art Director) for a company here in Indy, racing capitol of the world and all, you would think I would know a bit more about cars, eh? Thanks again.

The biggets bang for your buck is going to be the headers. Since price is an issue, check out anyone of the Comptech clones, but make sure you are getting one that doesnt have fitment issues like so many have had.

After that, I'd look at the Comptech icebox intake. The headers will give you the biggest bump in power, followed by the intake. You can also check out pullies, but thats about it for bolt-ons with significant perfomance increases. After those mods, the HP to dollar ratio becomes real wide, and things become real pricey for minimal gains. Good Luck.

I would go with a CAI over a short ram. cais make more power. Mufflers wont help. DO a search for exhaust. you will get lots of info. On our cars all they are for is sound. You can get more out of the stock exhaust by removing the factory resonators

but the problem with CAI is i heard it f up your engine..im not sure if thats true but a few of my friend had it and recommended me not to get it. im still debating about a V2 or a short ram or also a CAI if it doesnt mess up your engine on a TL. but is removing the resonator illegal? u wont be able to pass the smog test right? srry im kinda noob >_<

I have never heard bad things about CAI. my friend has a V2 on his TL and it sounds really nice. you could prob find no brand mufflers for cheap on eBay and still get some sound out of it.

They dont do any damage to your motor unless you drive it into a lake

well my mechanic was telling me.... that cold air intakes though do save on gas.... its more on the user because... it provides more power to the pedal and u tend to press on the pedal more to take advantage of the cai and therefore not really saving in gas........

so technically.. yes it saves gas but realistically... u will end up wasting more gas with that thing on.. especially when u just love hearing the noise of it...

LOL..it sounds really tempting to buy a CAI. but people say short ram got a more ricey sound. i just want something loud and noticeable. and i might take out the resonator also but i dont want something illegal and not pass the smog test.

Since you're new here.....Might want to try the Search feature before asking a question. It's amazing what you can learn.

Buy the Icebox from Excelerate, an AZ official vendor.

Thanks Mike.

Let me know if you need any parts for your TL. Acura CL/TL/TSX are my specialty.
