New ECU, New Key?
I am in the process of changing my TL-P 2003 to a TL-S. I an changing the ECU becuase a type s ECU has a higher compression ratio. Do i have to get new keys in order to use the new ECU?
not sure on new keys talk to a dealer, but i bet your original will work. what else are you changing, you will need new cylinder sleeves, camshaft, exhaust, IM & TB, intake, etc. to complete the engine transformation, also tl-s wheel, suspension, gauges, seats, shift knob, steering wheel, etc for interior, very expensive conversion.
what are u changing exactly? just the ecu or the motor also? You will probably be cheaper to trade in your car for a 2003 or 2002 TL-S ...but you will probably have to get another key since u will have another ecu
Guages are on their way, they were cheap. I have an Icebox and i am planning on getting megan headers. As far as for the rest of the engine, the ECu contols the compression ratio. The Vtec can handle the rest. I have the shifter, the seats, Tokico blues and TL-S Springs. My other question is - are the TL-S shocks better than the Tokico blues? I have the TL 2004 stock rims in chrome.
Check it out.

I dont get what your trying to accomplish by doing this, The ECU doesnt automatically change your compression ratio, you need to change all the engine vitals, sleeves, rings, throttle body, exhaust, ECU, i never really looked into doing such a thing, i can imagine it costing alot of money, youd be better off just buying TL-S, or looking into a Supercharger to gain power. . just doesnt seem like doing all that work and spending all the money would be worth it. . . by the way the although the '04 rims are nice, they dont fit the 99-03 correctly, just my
good luck with what your trying to accomplish here. . .

i highly suggest that you stop spending money and do some research beforehand. There are WAAAY too many differences from the type-S and the -p...like Phrosttz0 said + internals, cams, intake manifold and our buddy fsttyms1 prob knows the rest.
not a smart investment < swapping type-S engine < getting a type-S.
As far as the ecu and the new key. i do belive you'll be needing one. a friend of mine fried his ecu when he tried to splice a V-afc on it and had to get a new key with the new ecu ~ $1200. You can get an oem key from ebay for $40 and have it cut/programmed (idk how it works) at the dealer for $10. I bought one for my car and it worked
suspension: why get type-S springs when you can get aftermarket ones w/ better spring rates that'll even lower the car .5-1.5in depenidng on what you buy...tokiko blues are great shocks, but I get them w/ aftermarket suspension.
good luck to you

Oh puleasse put down the crack pipe before you destroy your car. I know of no one that has installed a TypeS ECU on a non-TypeS car without a full engine swap.
On second thought, do it so we can see your next post....
Anyone know where to buy a new engine?

Compression Ratio
NOUN: In an internal combustion engine, the ratio of the volume between the piston and cylinder head before and after a compression stroke.
Wouldn't it be cool if a computer could control the volume in a piston.

OOOOOhhhhhhh, well thanks to the advice i got here i will not be changing the ECU. I just thought it would be a good idea and for the price i was getting it at was a complete steal. i was getting it for 80 bucks from a local junkyard. The car it was comming from was totaled from the back, but the front was intact. Unfortunatly for me he had already got a large deposite for the engine. The ECU has 41k on it and my car has 42k, not a big difference. I installed the type-s springs with the tokico blues and my car now fishtails a bit. Is there anything i can do to help correct that? I don't want to lower my car though.
