Mid Muffler delete on a base model 2003 TL?

Im still a little new to the forum and searched for a thread like mine, but couldnt find any. Anywho, im looking to get my mid muff deleted soon but I saw something on another thread saying that base model TL's dont have a exhaust resonator, just a mid muff so there would be a slight "drone". Im not sure what a drone is, and somebody on the same thread said the mid muff delete made no sound difference from stock. I havent been under the car yet to check myself but has anybody else done a mid muff delete on a base TL? Also wondering what size pipe replaces the mid muff. Thanks.

That is false, i have a tl-p *base* and i did a mid muff delete. Its not a BIG difference in sound but you can tell. Piping is 2.25 i believe

there wont be a drone with stock mufflers and mid muff delete. You'll have drone when you do the mid muff delete and have tsudo axlebacks.

Stock + Midmuffler Delete = No Drone, Little Louder (According to Tony)
Tsudo + Midmuffler = No Drone, Deep Tone Sound, NOT louder than stock
Tsudo + Midmuffler Delete = Drone (2~3k rpm) , Deep Tone Sound, Louder Than Stock (Very Noticeable Difference)

That should help you out. I have a Tsudo axleback + mid-muffler delete myself.

This is basically everything summed up.

Drone didnt bother me at first but a couple months down the road i got tired of the sound. especially going around 40-45mph waiting for the gears to change.

Thanks a ton guys, Ive got one more question. Does the work of who ever welds the straight pipe depend on the noise? Ive heard a 350z after getting its mid muff deleted and it sounds like a tin can.

what? The welds don't affect the noise at all.

Actually welds can make a difference, if they dont weld it completely there cold be a leak etc. Not to mention.. most muffler shops just want to take your money and get you out so another customer can come in so dont expect them to be superb welds unless you go to a custom fab shop which will cost alot of $$$.

Not all "mid muff" deletes are the same fyi, every engine has a diff tune so keep that in mind.

Well I was talking about a complete weld. If there's a leak from a simple job like this then the welder shouldn't be welding things at all

And Tony is right, every engine has a different sound.

Find yourself a good muffler shop and they should do it for about $60 MAX, anything more and it's too much. Luckily the place I went to is nice, and even fixed the positioning of my pipes for free months later.

I paid 120 for a full replacement of piping from oem cat to oem mufflers. Good deal to me imo

Pretty much replaced the whole exhaust with new piping.

So tOny3....thought ya only did a mid muffler delete. Did ya re-install the resonator right behind the cat ?

I did do a mid muff delete, i have no resonator. Its just brand new straight pipe from the cat to mufflers. I can take a pic later on and show you to better clarify what i did.

I got quoted 40$ before I went to the exhaust shop and then when the car was already on the lift they told me its another 20$ for hanger lol but they check for exhaust leaks and I watched them do everything so I can't complain.

Drone takes some getting used to at first.

Not really a bad price....considering ya didn't have to crawl underneath the car.

when i did my mid muffler delete on the TL-P

shit sounded whack.. sounded like ducks crying in pain

had to weld in a resonator in it's place and it sounded somewhat better but nothing too drastic.

Mid muff delete with oem mufflers sounds nothing like that? Unless youre talkig about straight pipe no mufflers.

If its not ATLP you should just cut it off the car and kill it with fire. Just my opinion!

no, i mean exactly what i meant... i did mine on a TL-P.. TL-S does have a slightly thicker piping ID so it COULD be different.. but i'm basing mine off my own experience off my TL-P when I did the mid muff delete.

then your results are misleading as people are thinking chopping off mid muff and replace with piece of pipe.

... if all you're looking for are mufflers for sound, go to your local muffler shop & they will let you hear what a few mufflers sound like on your car by placing them where your oem ones were (after they cut them off), then you can choose which sound you like best. i had borlas on both my 91 legend & 96 rl & sounded clean & powerful on both. it all comes down to personal opinion for sound so just go to any muffler shop & you should be just fine

The "Mid Muffler Delete" (I thought it was a resonator?) in the TL-p sounding like "Ducks Crying in Pain" almost make me spit my drink all over the monitor in here.

It sounds completely different from just going Straight Pipes + Mid Muffler + Resonator in my TL-S..
It actually sounds horrible compared to mine, I feel sorry for the Ducks.
