I've searched and search to no avail.....

Just got my hands on a 99 TL two days ago and was informed 4th gear is slipping well before I traded for it. I researched and know they're pieces of garbage transmissons in the first place and I'll probably be buying a new one soon. Here is my question, as I stated I've searched and searched and haven't found anything other than swapping for a 6 speed, I just want to know if I can swap out the 4sp AT for a 5sp AT out of a 00+ and what parts I would need or if it would even work and other than either retuning the ECU or getting a 5sp AT ECU and probably center console is there anything else I would need and how comparable to price is it to just replacing the 4sp thats in it now. Also like to say this is an awesome forum one of the best I've seen in awhile and the people here are very knowledgeable and have a lot of good information.... As I said I've only had it two days and will be removing the mid-muffler and resonator later this week! Thanks in advance everyone!

you defintly dont want the 5spd. the 5spd from the 00-03 tls are the ones with the major problem, the 4spds in the 99 arent as bad and have less frequent failures. i have only had mine replaced once.

Thanks for the info I noticed that it only does it once it gets warm and it's only 4th.... I'm gonna try a flush and new fluids and filter if there is one. I read about reprogramming the ecu and some jets or something??? Any info on this would be appreciated as well. I've also made it to 110k on the factory tranny is it possible it's a "good" one?

This is also something that I would like to know, my tranny just died, and im curious if there are other alternatives to tranny replacements, other then the 6 spd, and original 4 spd.

There is NO reprograming to be done. and the oil jet isnt for the 4 speed.
and there is no filter to replace either.

sure you can dump a 5 speed auto in there. BUT why would you want too?? Unless you paid upwards of 4-5k for a updated one the 4 speed is a much safer bet.

are there any other maunual transmissions that would bolt to our engines....other then the great yet expensive and hard to fnd 6 spd. also was the 6 spd from the cl-s the same tranny for the 3rd gen tl, and the accord v-6 6spd?
