Intake Questions

I was wondering if anyone could let me know if the 03 type-s intake would fit regular base model 03 TL? Also what intake would fit a 99-03 TL (non type-s) like Accord, CL etc. if someone could please let me know which intakes are interchangable i would really appriciate it thanks...!

type-s will not fit the base model TL

i am not sure that the intakes are interchangable with the accord and base model TL

why don't you just buy an intake thats made for a base model TL?

The TypeS intake will be too short on the throttle body side as a result of the TLP not having a VSA unit in the intake tract.

Obviously you could get it to work. Get a piece of 3" aluminum tubing and two 3" rubber hose couplers and you can piece it together.

i originally got a short ram (aem), then attached a 3 inch extension pipe to make it a cold air. then slapped on a 4inch cone, with some brackets to hold everything in place. it turned out real well. its sits down in the area were the resonator used to be, were its nice and cold.

i can post some pics if your interested

Why is that? I've heard people say SRI makes the engine sound "meaner" and produces same HP gains as a CAI.

My original plan was a blue powder coated AEM cai but now I'm kind of confused.

no x2.
I don't like the look of a huge pipe under the hood. IMO it looks cheap and doesn't flow at all with the rest. Also avoids all kinds of stupid questions and extra attention.

I think a blue or red powdercoated AEM CAI looks quiet sexy under the hood. IMO though

aem makes more power than the comptech. but i like how the comptech makes the car feel like it runs a whole lot smoother and quieter. Pull felt faster cause the noise the car produced was relevant with speed. Not smashing making lots of noise and not moving.

Eh, I don't mine the noise I suppose, I do need to start some engine mods for sure though. Today I was going home from my buddys house I did a pull from about 50-85mph against some 00+ Oldsmobile Alero or w/e it's called... we were pretty close I was winning, I let off he passed I tried to go back on but I couldn't really catch. I then noticed the loud "popping" from his after market duel exhaust, idk what to think... ricer... or actually modded.

when I ordered my first CAI they sent me the one for the TL-P.. I thought I was retarded because it wasn't fitting correctly.. so on an angle (lol) I tightened the loops where it connects to the mass air flow.. i knew something was wrong so I looked up the part # and sure enough they sent me the wrong piece..

oh and by the way, the tools that I used to install my CAI were a steak knife and a hammer... FAIL, but works!

What are you talking about? Our cars do NOT have Mass Air flow meters.

i used the steak knife to saw off those plastic screws on the bumper.. now all i have to do is pull the flap down to change the air filter..

i used the hammer to bash out the intake resonator.. it was hard to get to that last bolt so i just struck it and it popped right out

it was an ugly procedure, my first DIY ever, but it worked

Please dont EVER do any more DIYs to your car untill you get the correct tools.

No Our cars dont have a mass air flow sensor. Are you talking about connecting to the 2nd throttle body for the VSA?

i had the tools.. i cut those plastic bolts because it was quick, easy, and I wanted that side to be free.. if i want to change the air filter all i have to do is pull the black plastic, then slide it back when done.. all the DIY's i performed after this one i did correctly lol

i was referring to where you slide the CAI pipe into.. when i had the wrong CAI it wouldnt fit perfectly because it is longer than the correct one for the TL-S.. so it was on an angle and the rubber connector was holding it together with the metal brackets

A quick use of the search button would have answered your question, but yes they will fit as long as its not a type-s or the 4 cyl

I bought a Type-S CAI and was able to get it to fit on my Tlp. You need a tube with 3" diameter and 3" to 4" in length. I got one from Autozone. Also, you need a 3"-2.5" coupler (ebay) and you'll probably have to trim the CAI tube where the filter connects because the tube goes down too far.
