Aem cold air intake. Short ram doesn't really do anything

you have to remove your entire front bumper to install the AEM CI. BTW which one are you thinking the V2 by AEM?

Correct I was thinking about the V2 Aem For 300.00 or The Weapon R Short Ram Intake For 190.00 ... I have an type S so there isn't many options ... & possibly an Injen Short Ram Intakes - IS Series For 130.00 ? I just want it to pick up RPM a little quicker & sound more aggressive

Get the aem cold air intake, You don't have to remove te fog lights. Short ram intake will do nothing but give a better sound. I have a short ram and I'm going to switch to a cold air intake when I get my new intake manifold on.

Not true just need to mod it My TL-S have been riding the V2 for Years you just need a Saw

To OP I would take the CAI, Short Rams on our cars are not even RAM INTAKES so its pretty useless and it only gives sound not HP.

If you are comfortable modifying the V2 (basically sawing a few inches off of it), then get that.

Otherwise, get a regular AEM CAI. Either way, don't get a short ram intake.

The INJEN CAI is another good option. Either way we have all the intakes available if you're interested.

CAI is basically better? All it does it sits away from the heat while the SRI is close. Rumor has it you can modify the SRI to make it a CAI basically which is moving it away from the heat

There's no way to modify a short ram to get it out of the heat. It's too short.

I think what he meant was get a little longer tubing and connecting it to the short ram intake. Making it a cold air intake.

3 month old thread revived!
When you saw the AEM V2, is that cutting a few inches off of where it connects to the TB? Why is sawing it necessary? Pics?
The DIY for CAI shows a different sawing method with a bypass valve...

it needs to be shortened so it can fit on the type-s.

type-s comes with a 2nd "throttle body" that is for the TCS where as the base does not come with it.

the DIY is just showing for bypass valve install for those that are planning to drive in 3 foot deep water

ebay cai will yield you the same gains for about 1/3rd the price. just replace the filter it comes with with a better one eventually if not right away. they are around $35-45 total. many on here run them and will tell you the same. the overpriced name brands are basically for the carb legal status, but it doesnt take much to revert back to stock every 2 years for your smog check.

So the V2 is just a few inches longer than the other AEM CAI - cut it, put it on.
Is there really any benefit to getting the V2 over a normal AEM CAI, like the one I linked... ^

there is no performance benefit over getting an aem, injen , ebay, or either vs. the other. the name brands come with a carb sticker - that would i guess be the benefit

an air raid kit, a 4 inch diameter all the way through will benefit more than any of those tapered intakes

what he said. or 4" homemade from lowes/home depot. 3 to 4" coupler, 4" pvc pipe, one 4" 90 degree bend, your 4" filter of choice - voila. made mine in about 20-30 min. just gotta find your own method of vacuum line connection.

why in the world somebody would spend $300 on an intake is BEYOND me, go on ebay and get yourself a CAI for $40. An intake is LITERALLY just a pipe with a filter on the end there is nothing to it.
