you took one off, then put one on? isnt that counter productive?

you removed the big box that connects to bottem of airbox, correct?
not the smaller on the engine side of the system- on lower section of inlet tube revealing a 3 inch hole which is now left open?
Im not sure which years had that option of inner res box
BUT that ones not supposed to be open!!!! -cap with plastic plumbing plug and hose clamp

if the correct outer res removed- did you grab the Y connector that fits res to air filter box?

ck other things for the noise,,loose intake hose clamps from airbox to engine,,exhaust leak etc

most only hear any noise from it in vtec, when its sucking in A LOT of that available air!

I've got the same exact hum the OP has, been living with it since last fall. Only at idle, it kinda sounds like when you blow over the top of a bottle to make it hum. Annoying, but not a big deal...

the humming is most likely air being sucked into the engine, thats normal

^ There is a difference between 01 and 03 resonators FYI.

There is a hum, trust me. People say they don't notice it because they're either used to it or deaf. The difference is there; performance wise (not noticeable) and sound wise. Also you get to really hear the difference once Vtec kicks in, if you never hit Vtec before you took off the resonator then you won't notice the difference. Nothing wrong with having it off at all, you just have to clean it more. All in all it acts like the poor mans SRI.

I wasnt sure what year has which intake hose

when you remove the res box, you start bringing in fresh outside air to the engine
from the lower grill
thats better than a short ram and many cai setups,,ne metal to get hot!

the hummmmm comes from removing the small resonator up near the engine, on the bottom of the intake tube on the stock setup - not from removing the larger one under the air box.
I dont know if all years have this but when I installed my AEM V2 I had to sell it because the hum was so annoying. like the OP says only could hear at idle.
I know it was that small resonator because when I put my original airbox back in I took both resonators off and capped off the 3 inch hole on the bottom of the intake tube (up by the engine) from the small resonator and the hum was still there. I put that small one back on and NO hum now.
so that is why I stuck with the stock airbox, no big resonator and a K&N filter like 01TL says the stock plastic parts dont get near as hot as aftermarket CAI parts
but I do miss the ROAR with the V2 under VTEC

The Type-S must not have the upper resonator then, cuz I don't remember one, and I never took it off! That means for the Type-S folks, you get the hum from removing just the lower resonator.

OP when you remove ur upper intake resonator you can squeeze a hockey puck into the gaping hole left open...better fitment than any PVC caps (among other attempts at covering that hole) i've come across! just shove it into that hole and once youve got it flush you can seal with some epoxy (on the outside of tube and puck!). works great! if you do a really great job the hum/whistle is hardly noticeable (takes a bit of dexterity with the tube still on the engine but it takes a bit to get the cover off to actually take the tube off.) The time you invest in getting everything flush and sealed seemed to have made a difference for mine!! At WOT this mod sounds great!
