Installing HID Fog Lights Without Removing Bumper
I'm getting ready to install my HID Fog Light Kit. I've read some people have removed the bumper some have not. I've mainly looking at CJITTY's post for guidance. However, does anyone have advice about installing it without taking off the bumper? Can you provide some steps? What's the best place to install it? Can I gain the same access without removing the bumper. I'm not good at putting things back together, so I don't want to attempt to remove the bumper.
Thanks
Thanks
I agree. Taking off the bumper is a good learning experience and may help you in the future. It believe it is possible to do it without though. My guess is to 1.) remove the foglight housings. 2.) reach your hand UP the opening and towards the center of the car and you'll feel a portion of the car's metal frame that is flat. 3.) use doublestick 3m exterior tape to mount the ballast to that flat area... practice mounting it before putting the tape on. 4.) since you won't be able to see it, because the hand and ballast will be in the way, you'll just have to play it by feel. That's how I'd go about it.
bumper off is easy as hell, well, I made it harder than I had to on my DIY, but trust me, that is the safest location for the ballasts and that weld spot i show in my DIY is the perfect place to keep the ballast secure, stable, clean, minimize moisture and minimize vibrations, especially with the thick 3M tape bonded hella tight to the clean metal surface. Some of the new HID kits out there have very small ballasts with long wires, so eventually you can stick those ballasts in the engine area and drop the wires down to the foggies

Okay guys ran into an issue!!! The driver side foglight will not light up. I tested that both ballast work on the passenger side, however once plug into the driver side it won't come on. I plugged in a reguluar halogen bulb (driver side) and it comes on without a problem any help!!!! I'm stuck!!!1

the bumper goes into tabs under the headlight, u shouldnt force the bumper on, just slide it in, check to make sure that the bumpers edge is between the tabs and not under them

The bumper removal process wasn't really that bad. It was just figuring out which clips and screws to take out. The thing that fustrated me the most was how the driver side would not work even though I tested both ballasts and bulbs and they worked fine on the passenger side. Luckily the kit came with this additional wire, I tested the wire to the battery and the kit came on. So I than hooked the wire to the kit and there was light! I then zip tied everything and used the same tape CJITTY got from the hardware store, that tape is no joke. Then I placed the bumper back on, but now there is this gap. It was getting late, so I'll probably take off the bumper today and try to refit it again. I'm also going to have to readjust the fogs, how far out should the cutoff be? Thanks for everyone's input.
^^Jitty's DIY is very good and is the guide i'll use when i do mine. they look excellent in person too.
like you found out, bumper removal isn't that bad. did you take out the intake resonator box while you had it off? if not - kill 2 birds while you're there.
