Cool Installed AEM V2 on a 1999 TL

hey guys... not sure if this belongs in the parts/ performance section or the photo section. If it doesn’t belong here a mod can move it.

Ok, so Friday I had my V2 intake installed on my 99 tl. Or did it myself with help? My parents own an auto repair shop, and one of the techs there help me put it on. The only issue we ran into was what to do with the coolant lines that ran into the stock intake. All we did was run them back.. instead of having them cooled (since you cant do anything else with them as far as i know).

I would say the hardest part was removing the upper stock air box... we got all the screws out of it, but it wouldn’t come out! so we figured out what was keeping it down after a min or 2. there is a long screw... maybe 8 inches that has some thread on the end of it, that runs like all the way through the stock intake... it is underneath the bumper. hard to see and hard to get at if you bumper is still on, but we managed without taking the bumper off.

So here are the pics...

I LOVE THIS INTAKE! it sounds soooo nice and I can really tell the speed/HP/ acceleration difference.

OH, one more thing... after it was installed, i drove it around the block and I kept hearing this cling/click or something noise... turns out it was the intake moving with the engine hitting the metal as the pipe went through the engine compartment.. so we grabbed a few inches of fuel pump hose or whatever its called and slit it down the middle, and but that around the edge or the hole. hard to explain so here is a pic.

i hope i am not forgetting anything... If you are planning on putting the v2 or similar in your car, and have any questions, feel free to ask and I will answer the best I can.

Did you install it yourself? and if so Did you do the same things with those coolant lines? just send them back?

Oh, one more thing... we did not have to use those included wires right? since our intake sensor thingy is in a different place... either that or we dont have one. must be for the 2000+

had one on my 99 for a while - the upper part of the tube would always hit the upper strut tower area (part of the intake where it bends). I had to rig up some pad there to keep it still. Also, you might as well order another mount for it (part that bolts on the bottom part. Mine broke after only a few months. They are only a few dollars, so get a few of them if you plan on keeping the intake a while

hey guys.... If anyone here is going to put the v2 on their tl or maybe cl (if they are the same) here is some info you may need. So on my 99 tl the coolant lines ran into the stock air box, but there was nothing to do with them now that the V2 is on. Also the instructions mention nothing about them, so I am guessing it is because the 2000-2003 TL's stock air box/ intake is different than the 99 tl. (For anyone who does not know, there are no AEM intakes that say 99 on them... only 2000+, but the 99-03 are just about the same... second gen duh!). So what i did was just send the line back to were it came from. To help me show you this ill give you a pic....

also, if it starts hitting, it will make that hell of annoying noise and i will fix it... If anyone else has had issues with intakes rubbing up on metal, let me know how you fixed it, or any advise on how to fix it! thanks.

the v2 doesnt have a tab? my aem cai has the tab to screw down near that hole....so it avoids clanging back n forth.

I didn't notice any rubbing with my V2 setup but it did look a little too close for comfort at the strut tower under the 90° bend so I put a piece of foam padding underneath it (the same stuff used under the plastic engine covers). No issues... yet.

Well I did not dyno the car, but I notice a significant increase in speed/performance... All I know is that the V2 is better than the AEM CAI and short ram... so I’m thinking the v2 is one of the best intakes out there. If you are thinking of getting one, I would definitely recommend it, not only for the HP but also for the sound and sleek look of the V2.

The v2 does have a tab but it still moves enought to make a really annoying sound... in the 99 anyway. I am guessing that the hole in the engine bay is slightly different than the 00-03 TL.

you just put the coolant lines back, your V2 doesnt need coolant, hah, and your V2 should have come with a tab that holds the intake from moving arround, comes with a rubber donut type thing to help secure it

Yes i know it doesnt need coolant! you must have mis-read something. I was trying to show the others who will be doing this what to do with the coolant lines.

And yes, my V2 came with a tab and rubber mount... I installed it with the rubber mount, and it still makes a noise. So i put some tubbing on the side were it was hitting the metal.

interesting... hmm, i've always thought that since it sucks more air that it'll start sucking more gas because of the air/fuel ratio that the car distributes. now granted you'll prolly run a bit more lean(is it healthier for our car?), but I would assume it'll use a bit more gas. post up results when you do that, i'd like to know for sure.

If you are referring to when you start up the car and are just sitting there... I don’t believe it is that noticeable. I do hear a hissing noise every so often... I usually notice it when I am on the freeway, and I am at a certain rpm and steady on gas pedal.
