ignitor?

i just got 55w 6000k ddm tuning hid kit, but when i took off my stock HIDs and saw that there is a stock ignitor.

My question is: What is the point of the ignitor?
can i just hook my ddm ballasts to the stock ignitor and then to the bulbs?
or can i just hook my ddm ballasts to the hid without the ignitor?

bulbs can go on the factory ballast so the original ignitor will work, not to sure what an ignitor is but i just switched my bulbs over on the factory ballist with aftermarket bulbs and they work fine

the ignitor is what it says it is. the ballast simply converts the electricity from the battery to the voltage/amperage(???) that the HID bulb needs.

some aftermarket kits have the ignitor in a seperate unit and some of them have it to where it's built in with the ballast, you can take out your stock ignitor and go from there...
