Help on AEM CAI

Hi, I have a 2003 TL typeS with OEM foglights. When I searched for AEM CAI online, all of website says "Fits the Type S with Automatic Transmission and without Fog Lights." Does this mean I can't install the CAI?

I don't think the Type-S comes without foglights? correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think I am.

Ah well... The main difference between the type-s and non type-s CAI is...

1) The throttle body on the type-s is slightly closer to the drivers side of the car.. so if you got a regular TL CAI it would be a little long (horizontally). Easy fix... get a hacksaw and cut off an inch or so (whatever the difference is)

2) Another issue is the regular TL CAI will be a smaller diameter than the type-s's CAI, to get around that and connect a TL CAI to the Type-s. Simply increase the diameter of the TL CAI to the diameter of the Type-s's Throttlebody with electrical tape (cheap fix) or high voltage rubber tape (sticky rubber tape that seals perfectly and works great) Once the diameters of the CAI and the TB are equal, get a rubber coupling and connect the two...

2) With refrence to the CAI being too long (vertically) and touching the fog lights... you have a couple of options,

A) don't use the down pipe for the CAI and install the cone filter directly after the horizontal pipe.. making a short ram intake..

B) Measure how much of the vertical pipe has to be trimmed (like the pipe above) and see if the filter can still go behind the fog light without causing too much of a congestion in there.

C) Buy another filter to go ont the pipe, I found the RACTIV filters' were really good quality, cheap, came in a bunch of different colours to match your engine, and come in different shapes to fit your application.

NOTE: when cutting anything don't forget to refrence the mounting points on teh CAI, you will have to use the same mounting placessomake sure they match up priorto cutting anything.

Bread-A Spec, I see under ur list of mods, you got a AEM CAI, which model did u get, and did u have any problems installing it?
In addition, I've been checking out CAI by injen, and I don't think Injen has the foglight problem.

P.S. thank you for all ur inputs by the way, i appreiate it yall.

I will be doing this very soon!!!! But comparing it (HP wise) to the regular AEM V2, AEM CAI, INJEN, etc.....etc... won't do much.. The CAI doesn't add that much HP to the car. So comparing two different CAI's would be prefrence on sound rather then HP gains..

I've got acess to a metal shop and I'm checking prices this week at the supplier.

I'm thinking about increasing the diameter of the CAI to somewhere between 3 and 4 inches.. any Ideas? Comments?

no idea, but I'd love to know if you get the same performance/better sound out of your fabricated CAI than spending pure billz on other models. Please PM me and let me know when you do that!
