Coolant Bypass

I remember seeing a detailed post with photos on how to do a collant bypass on the throttle body of a TLS... am not able to locate it in searching the site. Can someone please repost or provide link to it. Thanks much!

just unplug the two hose running into your throttle body and connect it. not really hard at all. 5 min job max.

except some coolant to drip out, so have a towel or something around to soak it up.

just to be clear, you mean unplug to two hoses running into the TB and connect them together right?

do you also have to plug up the spots where the hoses were on the TB so dirt doesnt get in?

As long as your doing the bypass you should throw on a breather filter as well.

no there's no damage to the throttle body. well you could by a transmission cooler but that won't really help with the 3rd clutch pack problem. the breather is to look cool. jk about that part. its so it doesnt re-route back the dirty air from the valve cover back into the engine. you don't have to feel stupid lol its all part of a learning process when you ask others question concerning your car and mods. so feel free to ask questions, that what we're are here for.

just to give in my, i did this mod maybe 2 weeks ago. ive had 2 tl's in the past 4 years and never did it. at first i didnt realize anything since i didnt drive that long. did a test within the last week with longer, aggresive driving. i did realize that after driving for a while it doesnt hesitate as much. this is worth the 5 mins of work.

You have to use a by-pass fitting to connect the hoses, usually made of brass. What size is the inner diameter of the hoses, guys? 3/8"? The coolant is routed through the throttle body in order to keep it warm and prevent sticking during cold weather. By doing the coolant by-pass, the throttle body will stay cooler, so the air passing through it will also stay cooler, and burn better in the cylinder. A throttle body spacer, and also intake manifold spacer, also help to keep the intake air cooler.

Has anyone ever had problems with TB sticking in the winter after doing the by-pass?

ive read multiple post on here and i dont recall anyone's TB sticking in the winter. even the people that live in freezing weather don't have any problem with the by pass. throttle response is also improved by doing this mod.

to be honest, yes it may be improved n all that fun stuffs but its nothing drastic that your going to feel. its just little mods like these that give you a couple hp here and there that add up. and i drove my car thru all the snow we got here last yr (snowplow) and it didn't stick at startup or anything.
