CAI help

Guys i have a 03 tl s type, I'm looking at intake options, I will be putting on headers, high flow cat, and thermal spacers on the intake, maybe in time a 3.7 intake manifold. I will be removing the front bumper cover in a few weeks and figured I may as well do my intake while I'm there. From what I have found searching around the Ice box is the best but know longer available, then would be AEM/Injen and there is always the resonator removal. Just looking for a little in site as to what these cars like in particular. More noise does not bother me but my rule has always been if its loud it better be fast, so performance is more important. These cars not haveing a MAF makes a CAI a lot simpler, it a single tube with a few bends. I have found a name brand knock off on ebay(not a big fan) but being this is a simple piece it could be just as effective with a good air filter. The ebay unit is listed at 2.75" pipe which seems small for the displacement and power out put but i have not found any diminutions for the name brand guys. Any knowledgeable in site would be appreciated thanks.

If you're planning on putting on a thermal spacer on the intake (or a new IM) why not do resonator delete right now and get your CAI after the spacer install?

BTW, with a Type-S, bumper removal for CAI installation is completely unnecessary.

Thanks for the advice, is there any diference between the AEM and Injen CAI? Do you know the size pipe used for either of them?

Thanks guys but V2 will not work for the S type, the TB is larger. I did pick up a new regular AEM CAI in gun metal for $165 shipped. After a lot of searching I did find that both the AEM and Injen are both made of 3" pipe for the S type CAI. So the only difference between the two would be the length of pipe and the air fill flow rate. Why split hairs I got a good deal for a new unit. Thank for every ones help. I may pull the resonator and run it till my CAI shows up just for comparison.

The AEM V2 works on Type-S I know it because I have it on mine and other users too..
You just need to chop chop a piece and presto! The main Difference is that Type-S Have the VSA TB and it needs a shorter pipe to fit.. The AEM V2 was designed for the TL-p (VSA TBless) so we just cut the length to fit and vuala! IT WORKS.

The AEM V2 is by far the BEST CAI for the TL just up there with the Comptech Ice Box.

I had an Injen normal CAI... Cannot tell the difference since I didn't dynoed it but It cannot be much since a CAI is already doing a good job.. If you get a CAI (Normal) the gains from using the AEM V2 is really short and it doesn't offset the $$$ Price tag..

Thanks Skirmich for the help, with the deal I got on the CAI I think I will be just fine. Its not like a CAI is going to make massive HP any ways.

Yep, no need to remove the bumper. Just remove the clips and one screw on the underbody splash guard between the driver's front wheel and the bumper (not the wheel well liner). You'll have complete access from beneath.

I was wondering if you're able to help me out on what site you got your AEM CAI from. Thanks in advance.

I saw the DIY for what looks like this intake, and you need to cut the pipe in half and fit on a bypass valve? Is this for the TL-P or TL-S? both?

I wouldn't recommend installing this. Don't drive through 2-3 ft of water and you'll be ok. This will disrupt air flow and degrade over time.

Wouldn't recommend installing that CAI at all or wouldn't recommend installing the CAI using the DIY method?

Found it searching Google, caught a wholesaler having a sale with free shipping. I didn't have my heart set on AEM it was just the best deal I could find(on a quality part!). Mod on a budget bro! Check in the BM there is always a deal floating around some where.

The AEM is kind of a pain because the air-filter touches the back of the fog light, but its not a big deal. Gonna have to replace it soon, when I drop the 3.5 in should have my heads back from the machine shop by next week!!!!
