Battery & battery mod questions
Battery & battery mod questions
Howdy again y'all!
In my research I've seen that the majority of people seem to prefer the Optima red top batteries for their TLs. I plan to get one for my next ride, and was looking at some options of what I could do with 'em.
In my searches, I found a thread from last year involving using a bottom mount holder:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...ghlight=optima
I love that it gives it a much cleaner look and I might like to go this route again, but I have a question about the product Si1point6 used in the last pic of the opening thread - namely the Tsunami PP2001-PT product he slapped onto the top of the battery.
It certainly looks... impressive, and I've tried searching to find out more about it, but not a lot of the info is in laymans terms for a twit like myself. So... could someone fill me in on what this product does so that I too could figure out if I want one?
Also... ARE there any batteries y'all might suggest other than the red tops? Any other mods that're recommended? Just curious
Heh, thanks for any help!

Ahh, sorry... to clarify I'm planning all of this for my next car which I'll be picking up next summer or so. I currently have an 02 TL-P which I'll be keeping stock... but the next one will be an 03 TL-S A-Spec which I'll want to mod the ever living poop out of. I haven't gotten specifics yet, but I'll want a touchscreen double dinn, if at all possible hook a tiny PC up to it (still thinking about that), put at least a single 12" sub in the trunk (probably want to do some sort of custom install to make it look nice and clean and maximize my trunk space at the same time... but still researching that)...
I really haven't begun researching audio mods yet, so I don't know what type of amp I'll need or anything else yet... or what else I might need. I guess I'll list some of the mods I want to do so far which would require power:
- illuminated door sills
- illuminated exterior door handles
- hid fog lights
- aftermarket alarm system with 2 way remote starter - still shopping around for this
- dash light mod (ala OntarioTL) + all interior buttons modded
- total interior light conversion to hyperwhite LEDs + white footwell lights
- rear view camera hooked up to double dinn
- double dinn
- micro PC which I'll have to find a place to mount... this is still up in the air to be honest
- sub + amp of unknown power/size thus far. To be honest I won't want to install a sound system that goes overboard. I just want something that'll let me go louder, cleaner and deeper than the stock Bose system.
Hmm... hope that gives you an idea of what I want... even though I didn't really say much in there, hehe.

Hrmm, I've been looking into the whole battery thing further. Basically what I'm thinking about now is a single 15" sub in the trunk with whatever necessary amp that's required to power it. That way I can get a very deep, powerful bass without taking up TOO much trunk space.
One thing a friend had suggested was putting a seperate battery in the trunk for the system. and for those times when you're running a lot of things without the car being on. I've had it happen a couple of times when I'm at a drive-in movie and weather conditions have gone to hell meaning I have to run the defoggers and in one case even the wipers since the skies decided to open. Well I suppose I don't need to tell you that with the front defogger going, the wipers going, the daytime running lights, and the stereo going all at once, the battery drained fairly quickly.
Thusly to help in preventing such things from happening what I was thinking about was installing 2 Optima batteries. From my searching it appears that the yellow top ones hold the most charge and will go the distance the best, but the red tops are best for cold weather conditions like what I'd face up here in Toronto. What do y'all think about putting a red top in the engine bay and a yellow top in the trunk?
I know, I know... it's probably not something I'll NEED very often and it'll be an additional cost, AND it'll add even more weight to the car... but in theory could I mix and match both batteries to get the best of both worlds?
