Air Temp Sensor relocation - AEM V2

I just installed AEM V2 intake. The optional "not carb leagal" relocation of the temp was not as expected. When I removed the sensor from IM, there was oil on it. I'm assuming this is normal? I wiped the oil off and moved it to the intake anyway as specified by AEM and pluged the original hole with the AEM provided plug. I was a little concerned about the oil on the sensor, so I called AEM. They said it is no problem, just wipe it off.

Does this sound right?

Thx

BTW, what makes this option "not carb legal"?

First off, you only have to worry about C.A.R.B. legal if you have to pass an emissions test (such as in California). Not carb legal only means that the configuration has not been certified as carb legal. It may or may not change the preformance of your car.

there are no sensors to remove and reinstall on the intake.

there is no sensor on the TL. there are vacum/breather tubes but no sensors. Are there wires coming off the part in question?

Then why is there and IAT sensor connected to the IM? Grey, 2 wires, one red, one green, right next to the vac hose. What is this, if not an IAT?

why did they want you to remove a sensor from the IM to the intake? There is no sensor on the oem intake so why remove it from the IM to put there?

as for the oil on it there will be some oil in the upper IM due to the breather tubes that draw air from the valve covers, and some oil is normal

They claim "increased power". How much, they don't say, but they warn it would not be "carb legal" to make this change. I too would like to hear the logic behind how this creates more power. I assume the air would be detected cooler, but how does that translate to more power?

cooler air = more power. If the sensor is reading cooler air it will adjust the ecu to compensate differently
