After market pulleys

Hey guys! My drive pulley is rattling and my friend told me to buy a new one and he'll replace it for me. However, instead of buying one from the dealership, I have an excuse to buy an after market one. Any suggestions and where I could go to buy one?

Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. If it is, could an admin please move it to the right one. I figured it would be a performance mod.

Thanks!

Does that pulley increase horsepower? How much are they and what do shops usually charge to change them?

Your crank pulley shoundnt be making noise. Are you sure its not the tensioner. The only pulley worth spending money on is the crank pulley

I believe it is the tensioner, but the pulley shakes a little at around 1.2k rpm and makes a noise. I'm just finding an excuse to modify my car. I figured if he changes it out, I might as well put a better one back in right?

Unfortunately the products can basically claim whatever thy want as there is so many variables. Also, the pulley does not in fact increase horsepower at all. It just decreases the load on the motor allowing a little more power to reach the wheels. ( If I understand it right )

I'm willing to bet you wouldn't actually notice a difference... but then again if you have to change it anyway why not??

Exactly it doesn't add hp it basically "frees up power" takes less stress off the motor

If it frees up hp, you're essentially gaining hp to the wheels.

I would say that if you went from 200 to 205hp it adds it. By your statement the same can be said for a intake exhaust and headers. They dont add hp, they free up power that was lost due to the restriction.

Whats the difference between add and free up? Either way the car is gaining hp

u almost instantly feel the power increase from the lighter pulley, engine moves more freely and the revs are quicker as well as you being able to feel power power reaching the wheels

depends on where you go. Most auto parts stores rent the tools necessary (breaker bar and torque wrench) to do the job

Just curious, does adding an underdrive pulley negatively affect any other parts of the car? Alternator, power steering, a/c, whatever else the belt drives...?

Roughly what percentage would the reduction in belt "rpm" be? Like 5% or 50%?

UR makes 2 pulleys. One a underdrive and one a standard size. The Underdrive only effects things such as large stereos. If you have one of those then get the stock size (still much much lighter than the stock pulley)

I had my installed by a performance shop. They only charged me $50 for 1 hour of work. Took them like 45 minutes since they had a very powerful impact wrench. I think the nut/bolt is torqued down to ~181ft/lbs.

Underdrive pulleys reduce output from the alternator. Alternator won't be able to handle the power required by the system

Do you guys typically replace the crank seal since the pulley is off anyway?
