Accord 6spd Conversion
Accord 6spd Conversion
I was wondering if the V6 accord 6spd will link up to our TL-S. I know a couple of guys who are doing the CL 6spd and by the time I think I get around to it, the CL 6spd will be hard to come by, so I was wondering if the Accord 6spd links up?
It should. The accord 6 speed, tl 6 speed and cl 6 speed should all work as long as they have the same bolt pattern. I know for sure the Tl 6 speed transmission works as someone recently on used it on their accord. The Tl 6 speed transmission I believe is the cheapest for some reason.
I'm somewhat interested in doing a 6-speed conversion. I might have to go through another tranny. The car is at the local dealer now, and I'll know the verdict tomorrow. If I am I will strongly consider the 6-speed swap depending on the cost of course. But it sounds like it would be loads of fun

Every review on the Accord V6 6Speed I've read stated that the tranny is from the CL-S... same tranny no LSD, therefore it should fit.... my question is will the 6speed trannys bolt up to a TL-P.
I'm really keen on buying this car 00 TL-P 70000 kms!... but coming from a 5 speed Accord *RIP*. I need a lil sport with my luxury
.... not to mention the infamous auto tranny problem......
being a student I don't really have the cash to drop a type S engine in... and dont really want to but if the J series is anything liek the B series pretty much all engine/tranny combos should be valid?

after reading more on , the accord guys trick the ecu into thinking its in d1, and use a push button to trick the car to think its in neutral and start... any idea how to do this on a TL? i believe i'll need a schematic of the ECU.. which i cant seem to find either.. too bad i couldnt just connect a CL-S ECU to the TL and be done... APEXI and HKS both have standalone management systems... would these be able to do the trick?
the accord guys did trick the auto ecu. How i have no idea. But it is possible. I went a completly different route (partially due to time, and the fact that my motor had 200k on it). I bought the type-s motor and cl-s ecu to make it more of a plug and play.
My
if your going to do the swap, spend the little extra on the type-s motor. I picked mine up for 800.00 with 32k miles on it.
Talk to the accord guys that did the swap and read their threads on how they tricked the ecu.

I've read your swap over and over and needless to say, you are my idol!!
on a side note would the CLS header.. with the jog in it, fit on the TL-P engine that way i can buy parts for future, right now
Thanks

haha The only part i'm worried about in doing the whole engine/tranny swap is ripping the dash apart...I'm looking forward to your parts list... i planned to do the engine swap in approx 2 years, I was just hoping the 6 speed could be done next summer to get the auto worries off my head

yea i'm thinking i'll just save the money and do the whole swap...I know that I want to do the whole swap eventually anyways..
fsttyms: will you be putting a parts list together still? I know it;s prolly gonna be a pain in the ass to remember all the parts you needed... just would be another useful tool along side your thread and I just wanna make sure I have everything b4 I pull everything and get stuck in the middle of the swap
black2001tlon19s: first off, awesome turbo tl! and secondly, do you know what standalones would be a good choice for this purpose? there are 2 reasons for my curiousity
1) If i get the 6 speed first i can drop that in until I get the engine and the time to do the swap
2) I plan to go the supercharge route and I think a standalone would be in order to get the optimal tune

This is a parts list I found on another forum discussing the 6 speed swap performed on an accord. Note I did not create this list and take NO responsibility for it being complete or flawed in any way.
This is the list for if you want to do a J32A2 Motor AND 6-speed MT swap.
You can go through 2 routes from what I know of.
1. 2001 - 2003 J32A2 motor that originally came with an AUTOMATIC TRANNY
2. 2003 J32A2 Motor that originally came with 6-SPEED TRANNY
The reason for this is because the J32A2 motor (AT) has missing/different parts from the J32A2 motor (MT). Seriously. I know it's basically the same motor. And yes you're correct. IT IS the same motor. But the AT motor had a different Front timing belt back cover (the plate behind the front cam gear), different crank gear (the gear on the crank shaft that spins the timing belt), missing the crank sensor, etc.... You get the idea. So long story short. If you can get the 2003 J32A2 motor that originally had/still has a 6-speed tranny. That would be the easiest. Otherwise, you can get the J32A2 (AT) motor and buy extra parts like I did.
So if you are going route number 1, this is what you'll need:
Quantity ..........Part Name .................................................. ............Part Number
1.......................SENSOR ASSY., CRANK ..............................................3750 0-pge-a11 <---This bastard here costs over $400 for a freaking sensor !!
1.......................SUB-HARNESS, TDC (1-2) ..........................................37841-pge-a10
1.......................SUB-HARNESS, CRANK SENSOR .................................37501-pge-a10
1.......................PLATE ASSY., FR. TIMING BELT BACK COVER .............11860-pge-a10
1.......................PULLEY, TIMING BELT DRIVE .....................................13621-pge-a11
2.......................SENSOR ASSY., TDC .................................................. 37840-pge-a11
And if you're going route number 2, You should already have all those parts listed
above in route number 1. And if you don't then you should get it. And now, here's a list of the parts you'll need , regardless if you go route 1 or route 2. You'll have to find the part numbers yourself if I don't list them.
CONTROL MODULE, ENGINE.......................37820-pge-a11
03 CL-S shifter cable
03 CL-S Tranny mounts
For this list you can either get the parts from the 6th gen 4 cyl. MT Accord or the 03 6-speed CL-S:
Clutch pedal
Brake pedal
Shifter assembly <--- You can use the 97-01 prelude shifter assembly if you want, it's shorter like a short shifter.
master cylinder
Tranny Fluid resevoir
You can go through 2 routes from what I know of.

There are other things as well.
CL-S engine dampeners (you will need them)
Clutch
flywheel
flywheel bolts (they are different from the flex plate bolts on a auto)
clutch pedal hyd lines.
Most likely different wireharnesses (unless you are good with wiring) If to attempt again a may try to keep teh factory wiring and make it work.
if you want to get rid of the prnd4321 a cl-s 6 instrument cluster
Helms manuals to make life easier
I would look into a header like the XS (especially if you dont get teh Y pipe from the TL-S/CL-S) because teh TL-P/CL-P has a sleeve inside making it smaller in dia.
Thats the main list that will get you 95+% completed
Thanks guys, thats exactly what i was looking for, expecially things like the flywheel bolts, because looking through the pics I noticed there were lots of bolts and stuff ordered from honda
